Glitter Nail Polish Tutorial

Super Easy DIY Chunky Glitter Nail Polish

The season almost demands that you wear chunky glitter polish at least a couple of times, but big glitter polishes tend to be on the expensive end, and polish with tiny glitter takes endless coats to get the same bold, sparkly effect. There's an incredibly easy solution, though: just make your own. That way, you'll have polish that looks great, is a color that's hot on you, and can match your makeup and outfit. To find out how, just read more.

  • Get some fine-size flake craft glitter ($1.39), or medium size if you want it really chunky.
  • Find some clear nail polish, like Boots No. 7 Stay Perfect Nail in Clear ($3.37). If you have a half-full bottle, all the better.
  • Pour half the nail polish out into a bowl or another container, and funnel the glitter into the polish bottle.
  • Shake it up!
  • Apply.

Try using gelish too. I used clear coat with glitter and it only lasted 3-4 days. Here's a glitter ombré bling ,anicureni did at home: http://granola2glam.blogspot.com/2011/12/merry-christmas-eve.html

I tried this, and it did not produce "big chunks" of glitter like I thought it would, and it changes the color of the clear polish too. What I found to be the best to get super blinged nails is to put a layer of clear polish on, then before it dries, sprinkle glitter on top, softly smoosh it down, and then put a top layer of clear nail polish...you can repeat if you want super chunky glitter nails! It's super festive, and easy...your nails'll look like mini disco balls ^v^

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe I never thought about this either - I love mixing my nail polishes to make new colors; and I've mixed a color with a sparkly silver, white, or gold; but I've never tried to make my own polish! Plus I buy glitter all the time (I'm a kindergarten teacher); can't wait to try this...
