Glitter Nails For Fall 2013

All That Glitters: A Fall-Fabulous Nail Look in 4 Fast Steps

The following post was written by Alison Elle, who blogs at Alison*Elle, and is part of POPSUGAR Select Beauty.

Fall weather means cozy knits, warm drinks and, of course, seasonally appropriate nails! I especially love wearing rich, dark nail colors during the cooler months but always like to add a little pizzazz when I can. This easy-to-do glitter manicure is sure to get you lots of compliments and can be adapted depending on the polishes you have in your collection.

  1. Start with a base coat like Clinique A Different Nail Enamel Base and Top Coat ($13) to protect your nails from staining.
  2. Paint on a dark base polish. I used Clinique A Different Nail Enamel in Black Honey ($13), which is a deep burgundy/wine, but similar options include Essie Wicked ($8) or LACC Beauty in 1940 ($14).
  3. Apply a chunky gold glitter on the lower half of your nails. Be sure to pat the glitter on, rather than brushing, to have more control over the placement (you may have to do a few layers to get your desired effect). I used Avon Frosty 'N Fab Glitter Nail Enamel in Golden Tinsel ($4), but Sephora by OPI Only Gold For Me ($5, originally $10) is similar.
  4. Seal with a top coat like Revlon Extra Life No Chip Top Coat ($6) to protect your work.

And there you have it: Fall-fabulous nails!
