Good Hair Movie Trailer

Check Out the (Very Good) Good Hair Trailer

Earlier this year, Chris Rock announced his upcoming documentary, Good Hair. After his little girl asked him why she doesn't have "good" hair, he set out to explore why Black

hair is so frequently divided into "good" (straight, long, smooth) and "bad" (curly, natural, kinky) in our culture.

The film is being marketed as a comedy, and Chris Rock is indeed as quick-witted and hilarious as ever. But still, it's hard to watch this trailer and not notice how very unfunny these good/bad hair concepts can be. And it's even harder not to feel a sting when Rock, failing to sell some Black hair to a wig buyer, jokingly says "So my nappy hair is not worth anything." This film looks fascinating, and I can't wait to check it out. What about you?

I worked at a healthcare facility where caucasians were in the minority and we often had "group sessions" for staff that involved talking about hot topics like race and discrimination. I watched a film where several black women openly admitted that they tend to dislike white women purely based on their hair alone - not for the hair itself but because of how white women treat their hair....they flip it, toss it, play with it all the time and it can create tension since white women do these things often without realizing and black women see it as "showing off". It was an interesting viewing. I will say this - I know that black women go through a lot to get their hair "just so" but DAMN if it's done well it looks so good.

WOW!As a white woman I had no idea what an African American Woman had to go through, and it's a shame that it costs so much, that they even have layaway.I would definately watch this.Chris Rock is so funny and doing this for his daughter is really great.

Can't wait to watch. This is a very touchy subject and to seem it handled intelligently but also with humor is something I have been waiting for.
