This Is What Happens When You Donate Hair

Ever wonder how human hair becomes a full-blown wig? Well, BuzzFeed tracked the donation process for this adorable video. The model, Hannah, donated her strands to Wigs For Kids, a nonprofit organization that provides hair to children undergoing cancer treatment, kids with severe burns, or young people inflicted with illnesses like alopecia. The hair was then brushed, disinfected, sewn together, and attached to a wig cap by hand before given to the recipient. Watching Bridget, the recipient, brush her wig for the first time reminds us how important it is to donate hair — it takes 20 to 30 ponytails to create one hairpiece. And now we know what Beyoncé's wigs go through too! Watch the full video above, and we dare you not to smile.
