Hair Tutorial: Nicole Richie’s Ponytail from Golden Globes

How to Create Nicole Richie’s Retro Ponytail Look

All eyes were on Nicole Richie at the Golden Globes, thanks to her shimmering Julien Macdonald gown and a retro-inspired waterfall ponytail. It might look intricate, but this ponytail is achievable in a few simple steps, and is easy to re-create at home. The best part is that it works on all types of hair, even if you don't have bangs like Nicole. Try it for your next big night out!

Pumped up ponytails were a huge trend on the Golden Globes red carpet, with every one from Amanda Peet to Sarah Michelle Gellar sporting their own unique version. We love Nicole Richie's cascading waterfall pony tail. It was glamorous with a sheek retro twist and I'm going to show you how to get this look at home. This look works best on day old hair. They use dry shampoo to absorb excess oil and to refresh. Nicole has bangs but the steps are exactly the same whether you have bangs or not, like me. So just start off by grabbing hair from the front of your head toward your crown, you're going to tease this area to make it nice and thick to give the illusion that you have a lot of hair even if you don't. My hair's fine so this is going to help. Now we're going to separate the bottom layer into three distinct pieces, one in the back and two on the side. Now with the back piece, you're gonna create a high ponytail. Make sure to leave the loose pieces on the side because you'll need them for the next step. To make the high ponytail, just use the clear elastic so you can't see it. what can then lightly twist and wrap around the pony tail. You're going to secure this with your bobby pin. My hair isn't as long as Nicole's even she did have extensions, so I'm going to need to pin it in order to keep it set. Go ahead and, if you need to, you can tight again, make sure it stay, then lightly smooth it out over the pony tail. To finish off the style apply a serum for a glossy look or you can hairspray. I hope this inspires you to try Nicole Ritchie's red carpet up-do at home. I'm Kirbie and thanks for watching BellaSugarTV.

Let me know how it goes! One suggestion: make the ponytail a little bit higher than mine. I think it gives it a more flirty look!
