Has Your Stylist Become Your Therapist?

Bartenders, taxi drivers, and hairstylists — all professions with a reputation for being listeners of problems and givers of advice. My friend, who is mostly retired from the hair biz, has been a cosmetologist for nearly 40 years. Over the course of her career, she's heard it all. The classy lady is no snitch, and she would never reveal the personal details of her clientele.

But once, I did overhear a former teacher of mine talking all about her sex life as I buried my head farther and farther into the dryer and waited for my hair to set. How about you? When it comes to the private aspects of your life, do you leave the intimate stuff at home, or do you have no qualms dishing about anything and everything to your stylist? Call it "thairapy," if you will.

my stylist is only a little older than me and i've been going to her for a few years so i actually go to her house now to get mine done (its cheaper!) i wouldn't say she's my therapist but we definitely chit chat about jobs and boys and other things!

I talk to my hair dresser because I have been going to her since I was in fourth grade and I am now 25yrs. old. She is like a second mom to me and we have a relationship at this pt. and her and my mom went to H.S. together and such back in the day. But I am not the type to talk about "private business" in a public setting - that's tacky and weird. Makes me uncomfortable when ppl. do that. There are therapists for a reason - use them as a resource please!

I hate going to salons because they always want to chat.... I just want to get my hair cut! I finally found someone who did point out that I'm "not much of a talker" but he doesn't seem to mind so I keep going back to him. :)

No way. I like the quiet time. Besides, I live in a small town and my hair dresser has the biggest mouth. My business would be all over my town in a heartbeat.

I'm sure most people would find this absolutely horrifying, but I haven't had my hair cut in almost 2 years. So, no, I never see someone so often as to feel comfortable delving into the dirty details of my life while getting my hair done. Besides, when I do get my hair cut, my stylist is a longtime male friend of the family - it just wouldn't be right to talk to him about personal issues!

I haven't found a stylist that I regularly go to, which means that I don't have a "hairapist" just yet.

My last comment posted before I was done. so to continue... I don't see anyone regularly enough to share my problems with them.
