Hilary Swank Is the New Face of Pantene Beautiful Lengths

She's already a model for Guerlain, and now Hilary Swank has signed with Pantene. She'll be promoting Pantene Beautiful Lengths, a campaign that encourages people to grow, cut and donate their hair to create wigs for women who've lost their hair due to cancer. But her involvement goes beyond appearing in print PSAs; she'll be growing and donating her hair, too.

In a statement, Swank commented on how cancer has touched her life:

"I have lost multiple family members to cancer and witnessed their struggle firsthand. I've never heard of anything quite like Pantene Beautiful Lengths, and I'm proud to be asked to promote the goals of such a unique and heartfelt program... I just hope that my contribution will help to inspire others to get involved in whatever way they can."

Talk about the kindest cut! I already thought Hilary Swank was a tremendous actress, but now I have even more respect for her. Growing her hair and donating it is a relatively small gesture, but it's one that will make a huge difference for one woman. Have you ever grown your hair to donate it?

I did it last summer, and was so happy to do it. I hated having the long hair, so I'm not sure if I'll manage to do it again, but it was so rewarding! Everyone should give it a shot once! I've convinced three friends so far.

I'm happy to say I decided a few months ago after I get married, and I grow my hair very long. I'll be donating it. I'll be happy to chop it all off again. Long hair is trouble.

OT here, but it's along the same vein (haha). You can also donate blood. It doesn't take nearly as long and can help up to three people. Just putting it out there.

I grew my hair a few years ago and donated it to Locks of Love. I am doing it again right now. (My Aunt has breast cancer and inspired me to do it again.) There are a few places to donate your hair. Wigs for Kids and Locks of Love are a couple. I chose Locks of Love because they will take 10 inches of hair and Wigs for Kids want at least 12. They will take colored hair, but not bleached hair.

This is a great campaign idea. I hope one day when I feel tired of long hair and confident enough to try short again, I will give my hair to foundations like this one.

I've donated twice to Locks of Love, and I'm about to chop off my hair for a third time! It's so great to do and such a small thing that can make the difference in a life! I strongly suggest it! http://www.locksoflove.org/

racchi99 thats really lovely, tbh the thought never occurd to me, but i think its a fab idea, a lady losing her hair would b really traumatic anyway and that comes with having cancer too so i think its a gr8 idea to donate ur hair if ur going to have it cut anyway, and even lovlyer to grow and cut it just for the purpose of donating to somone.

No I haven't done so, but Like Hilary I have lost a lot of family to cancer and it makes the want to do so even more. I am on my way to growing out my hair and donating.

I donated my hair (which I had long for YEARS!) to Locks of Love about a month ago. Best thing I've done. I think it's fantastic for people to be so willing to give away a chunk of themselves. It's absolutely empowering. Also, Locks for Love will take gray hair, hair under ten inches, and hair that's dyed. However, they can't make a wig out of it, and they sell it to balance out costs (It costs around $1200 to make a wig.) If you're thinking about donating, I suggest a definite DO!

Two girls I work with and I did Pantene Beautiful Lengths recently. It was so great to do it with other girls. When my hair was driving me nuts and I really wanted to cut it before I grew all of the extra inches, I had friends to hold me accountable. I feel great about it, and I love my short summer hair! I really recommend doing it.

I think it's a great program. I am currently growing my hair out for Locks of Love until my wedding next year, and am thinking of cutting it at the reception to make a statement that would encourage others to be brave enough for someone else's happiness.

Yeah i heard that too seraphim. i like the Shave for the Brave at my uni. People get drunk. raise tonnes of money, sponsor kids with cancer and do the world a lot of good. It's impressive to see a girl crying her eyes out at cutting her hair but still doing it.

Salon not saloon- whoops, I don't know many bars that would be good at cutting hair! :)

My saloon is part of the Locks for Love program (I just found out they were) and I think it is great. I have never done it myself (I usually don't grow my hair out much as it is) but it is a great program!

I had a 6th grade student a few years ago who had beautiful long, thick hair, and about Thanksgiving-time, she cut and donated it to Locks of Love. I still see her occasionally(she's in high school now) and she does a new donation every two years. Somehow, that impressed me more than even an adult doing it: after all, who is more vain than the 12-to-16-year-old set?

don't they only take hair that hasn't been highlighted or dyed? someone once told me that...
