It's easier with two strands instead of three, just twist them each in the same direction and then twist them together in the opposite direction. I like the way it looks better, you can make them looser and more casual rather than literally resembling a rope.

I love braiding my hair in summer because it keeps them out of my face when it's hot, but it feels more natural and chic than putting them in a pony tail. I'm a little skeptical about the rope braiding though, would it look too childish like it does in the picture?
