How to Create a Soft Smoky Eye Shadow Look

Get Vera Farmiga's Subtly Smoky Eye Makeup Look

Vera Farmiga looked utterly fetching wearing a toned down smoky eye at the Toronto Film Festival for the recent premiere of Henry's Crime. This subtle smoky eye, which was created by celebrity makeup artist Nick Barose, featured a hint of plum-toned shimmer with subtly diffused lines. So to find out how to smoke it up softly, just keep reading.

  • First, waterline the inner rims of the eyes with a black eyeliner pencil. Then, smudge a bit of the pencil on the upper lash lines.
  • Using a dampened sponge tip applicator, apply a deep-toned plum shadow right over the liner on the upper and lower lash lines. Nick used the purple shade from the YSL Ombres 5 Lumieres Palette in Midnight ($56).
  • To finish off the look, apply two coats of black lengthening mascara (it adds drama without too much volume) on both the top and bottom lashes.
