How Do Other People Affect Your Scent Choices?

This morning on the bus I sat next to someone who just... smelled. She was wearing a heavy perfume, and I found myself breathing through my mouth just to get through the commute. But I also realized that I often spritz myself with the spicy and very distinct Angel by Thierry Mugler, so maybe I'm guilty of the same transit crime.

With news of the recent decline in fragrance purchases, do you think you would curb your scent-wearing habits out of consideration of others, or do you think your personal perfume choice is nobody else's business?

when i wear scents its purely for the thought of making me feel good and clean and feminine. if it depended on anybody else i wouldnt wear it. i could care less bout luring someone in with womanly wiles, scents whatever

I wear light perfumes that go with my body chemistry because what smells good on another person, may not smell good on me. I only spritz 3 small spritzes in the crooks of my elbows and neck area to last the whole day. I wear perfume free lotions so that I don't have to reapply during the day too. I want people to smell me as I pass, not pass out a few minutes later cause I've left a cloud of scent. Lol.

Since I make perfume, I'm hyper aware of scent. So everything I wear on my body is as unscented as possible and I try to follow a diet that discourages any distinct body odor. A good perfume should extend no more than a foot; anything other than that is on too heavy.

Everyone seems to get offended or in an uproar about something these days. So I just wear what I like and do not care. I would rather smell a nice perfume on a person than their own scent after a day's work.

I wear only a little bit of perfume on occasion and i always make sure it isn't so strong, just a slight sent.

I'm very considerate in general, and assaulting noses is another thing I try not to offend people by doing. I usually don't wear scents because my cat has allergies anyway.

I have a really strong smeller and I am sensitive to lots of smells. I wear less knowing what it feels like to be around someone with a gallon of perfume on. The worst is when they wear it at yoga....deep breathing your toxic perfume is the worst for relaxation.

Half the time, I don't even wear a scent. After a good shower and deodorant, it just doesn't seem necessary some days. The other half, I wear a light scent during the day - it's airy enough that I don't think I'd need to draw back on how much I'm using. It all just depends on how I'm feeling each day, I guess.

Ever, that is. Can't spell today, keep tacking on extra letters!

I wear a light scent anyway, and use it sparingly, so someone would have to be well within my personal space to smell it. Someone giving me a hug would smell it- someone shaking hands with me probably wouldn't. My husband and sister are the only ones who've every mentioned anything about it, and both times were after a hug.

I have to chime in here to say that if you are headed to any medical clinic, doctor's office or hospital, try to wear no fragrance at all. There's a strong possibility that your scent (however subtle) could set off some problems for a patient.

I don't want to be that person you can smell approaching from 30 feet away--it wouldn't be pleasant for me anyway.

I don't bathe in perfume, I hate it when other people do it.

I only wear it when I am going out somewhere... or just in the mood for something. I tend to do one spritz. If I can smell it then I am afraid I put too much on.

I wear what I like...I don't think I ever overdo it either. I just use a couple of small spritzes. Nothing overpowering. The scents I wear most often are either warm, vanilla-scented fragrances (like Pink Sugar) or light, floral scents (like Daisy by Marc Jacobs or Clinique Happy In Bloom)...if anything, people always tell me I smell good!

I don't typically wear real heavy scents, and I only put on a small amount each day. I work in the health care field and I know how sensitive some people are, but I've never wore a ton of any scent.

I wear what I like, the only person I may sometimes try to please is my boyfriend. I will wear scents on occasion if I know that he likes them. :)

I don't wear perfume to work because I don't know if anybody is sensitive, but outside of work I wear whatever I want. Most perfumes smell really bad on me, so I pretty much stick to stuff with white flowers.

I'm fairly sensitive to perfumes and scented products, so I can usually tell if I'm wearing too much. My dad's one of those people who just wears TOO MUCH cologne, and I get a headache or get nauseous when I'm around him.

I'd like to think I wear just enough--enough so that someone who hugs me can smell it, but not too much where I leave a trail of scent in an elevator. Personally I can't stand it when someone is wearing too much of anything--the boys I went to college with who were too lazy to shower and doused themselves with Axe (which, despite the commercials, smell like arse to me) come to mind--so I try to avoid anything like that.

I work with a couple of women who, if you walk into an empty room here you can tell who was just in it due to the smell!

I don't like bathing in perfume, so hopefully that translates into only a gentle scent when people are up close and personal with moi. P.S. I love Angel perfume too! I ran out of it so when I get some money I will definitely be refilling it.
