How to Do a Rope Braid

Try This Different (and Easier) Take on the Braid

Heard of a rope braid? It's one of the easiest hairstyles to pull off, and after seeing how Fendi showcased them on the Fall 2012 runway; we decided to create our own interpretation for an everyday, wearable look. On Kirbie: H&M.

Kirbie can you tell us what nail polish you're wearing? I love that it's kind of a "bold" nude. :)

Kirbie girl I think you did this wrong. You are twisting each of your two strands clockwise (to the right), so when you "braid" those two twisted strands together, to look like a rope you have to braid them a certain way in this case right strand over left. Test it out right over left vs. left over right. Only one way looks like a rope, the other way looks like one big twist instead. I do rope braids all the time but if it's been a while since , I'll start doing it wrong and after a few braid motions it's obvious. Give it a try each way. hth.

I have short hair so braids don't always work for me, but I feel like the rope braid is a great alternative. Thanks for this!
