How to Extend the Life of a Haircut

Get More Bang From Your Cut (and Save Money, Too)

Haircuts can be pricey, and if you're a frequent salon-goer, they can become a huge expense. But you can easily get more bang for your cut — er, buck. One of the simplest ways to extend the life of your style (and make your haircut appointments spaced farther apart) is to rejuvenate your look with a light touchup in between services.

Pretty much all salons offer complimentary bang trims, and most stylists are willing to provide free haircut refresher services to keep you happy. All you have to do is ask, and just be sure to tip about $5-$10 for your stylist's time. Also, consider scheduling these in-between services after every cut to make it easier on yourself. Your hair will thank you.

I'm growing out my bangs so no need for touchups!

I'd feel bad asking them for a full refresher, but the few times I have gone in for a bang trim, my hairdresser has freshened up my ends and layers too (cutting dry) so I always leave looking better than when I came in. I mean, if she's doing it in her downtime, she isn't going to want to let you leave looking like a mess, and since it's her "thing" to do hair, she is usually happy to try to clean me up since she isn't doing much else at the time. But Marshmelly, you should be tipping at least 15% but she is also making money on your cut when you get a full cut. When she does a free trim, it's just out of the goodness of her heart, so $5 to $10 is pretty legit, especially if she cleans up your hair like I said mine does above.

$5-$10 tip for a complimentary bang trim that takes a couple minutes? I usually tip around that amount ($7) for my regular haircut, so that seems a bit excessive. I might do a couple bucks...though I trim my own bangs so I'll probably never be in that situation haha
