The Summer is all about minimal makeup, minimal yet chic clothing, days by the pool, beach reads, and sunshine. Most important out of all those, in my opinion, is definitely minimal makeup. I know what you're thinking: if you feel your skin isn't looking it's best, you just can't bear the thought of not wearing makeup. Well, I'm here to tell you that getting a glowing complexion this Summer sans makeup isn't as difficult as you may think. So, here I present to you, my foolproof plan to get gorgeous Summer skin!
I know it may cost a little more than your average beauty product, but a Clarisonic is an investment for your life. I got my pink Clarisonic Mia ($119) two Christmases ago and I literally cannot live without it. I use a sensitive brush head so I can use it daily, and I pair it with Origins Checks and Balances Face Wash ($20). It's a creamy cleanser that will leave you feeling fresh, and since we tend to feel a littler more oily in the Summer heat and humidity, Checks and Balances is the perfect cleanser to combat shininess. These are my two main weapons for gorgeous Summer skin. Get more of Elizabeth's product picks when you keep reading.
Once a week . . .
I skip the Clarisonic and go for a deeper exfoliation with The Body Shop's Vitamin C Microdermabrasion ($21). Only use this once a week because it is a little intense, and definitely do not use if you have any sunburn. Aside from those stipulations, this product will take away all dead skin cells, help protect against any environmental stresses, and pump antioxidants into your complexion. Sounds amazing, right?
Typically in the morning . . .
I just wipe my face down with Mario Badescu's Cucumber Cleansing Lotion ($15), which is a toner for more oily skin. It's super refreshing and lays the foundation for my morning products. I then use Clarins Double Serum Complete Age Control ($85), which was recommended to me by my facialist at Clarins. Next, comes Clarins Truly Matte Hydra-Matte Lotion ($42), which leaves me, well, matte. For an eye cream, I always turn to Origins Ginzing ($27); I've been using it since it came out, and I love it. If you're looking for more of a cooling option, which may be better for Summer, I like Clinique's All About Eyes De-Puffing Eye Massage Serum ($28). Lastly, I use Smashbox's Camera Ready BB Cream SPF 35 ($39). This gives me protection from the sun, since the Clarins moisturizer doesn't have SPF, and gives me the coverage I need without being too makeup-y.
My night routine is much easier. Here's the quick rundown:
1. Remove the day's dirt and any makeup with Philosophy's Purity ($33).
2. Clarisonic with Origins Checks and Balances as the cleanser, followed by a few spritzes of Philosophy's Hope Springs Eternal Ultra Fine Hydrating Facial Mist ($22).
4. Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins ($40) is a great-smelling p.m. moisturizer with tons of vitamins.
5. The last product I want to mention is my new addiction, Ahava's Purifying Mud Mask ($8). Use it once a week during the Summer and it'll bring all the impurities out of your face, get rid of dullness and extra oiliness, and leave you feeling fresh and new.
Well, there you have it: my routine for perfect Summer skin. And even though it sounds like a lot, I promise you my a.m. routine is easily done within five minutes.
