How to Get Perfect Beachy Waves

4 Tips For Getting Rumer Willis's Perfect Beachy Waves

Rumer Willis has some truly perfect mermaid waves in her new ad campaign for Badgley Mischka, so we got the exclusive from her stylist, Riawna Capri, on how to re-create the style. The key, Riawna says, is "to utilize your natural hair texture then add a few curls over it." She has a bunch of other great, in-depth tricks for getting the wavy look right, so to see her advice, just keep reading.

  • On getting the most out of your texture: "An important tip to getting the perfect beachy wave is to not brush your hair once you get out of the shower. It's always best to comb in the shower with the conditioner in your hair. That will allow your natural wave to clump together and create a thick wave verses a skinny, frizzy curl."
  • On getting your waves to set right: "Apply your favorite curl cream from the roots to the ends and twist big pieces of your hair into about 10-15 sections. You can either let it air dry or use a diffuser to speed up the process."
  • How to create the right kind of curls: "Once your hair is done drying, touch up a few curls with a curling iron. I alternated with a one-inch and a three-quarter-inch iron and didn't curl every piece to allow some of the natural curl to float through."
  • On creating the right finish and texture: "You want to spritz your hair with a sea salt beach spray and scrunch at the same time. For Rumer I used Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray ($23)."
