How To Make Your Blow-Dry Last Longer

After spending excessive amounts of time and money getting my coif cut and colored in some of my favorite salons, I couldn't bear the thought of taking 30 more minutes to blow-dry my hair so soon afterward. Plus, let's face it, when your hair is perfectly straight and frizz free, you don't really want to mess with perfection unless it's screaming for a wash. Here are a few helpful tricks to extend the longevity of your blow-out.

  • Keep your hands away from your hair as much as possible. This will minimize the amount of excess grease in your hair.
  • Spray a dry shampoo. My favorite is Klorane; you can spray it on hair daily to help soak up dirt and oils.
  • The front of your hair gets greasiest first, so try spritzing that area with water and then blow-dry it again for a easy and quick refresher.
  • Got any additional ideas of your own? If so, please share them in a comment below!

if i need to wash, i just have to wash my hair. sometimes when i feel like having my hair nicely blown, i just pop into a hairsalon for a good old fashioned wash and blow before i hit the town for shopping or chilling with pals.

wrap your hair at night with bobby pins and a silk scarf/use a silk pillowcase. a lot of black and latina girls do this, its kinda hard to describe but it works! (basically use your head like one big roller and brush your hair around it)

Avoid as much as possible (even better altogether) using silicone- or wax- based products or hair sprays when blow-drying. My hair is dry to very dry, curly, long and I blow dry them once a week in a hair salon. But I find that it gets quickly greasy (for my standards) if I use any of these products and it does not matter if it's before or after blow drying. I also use a clarifying shampoo 1-2 a month to remove any residue (my favourite is Aveda Detoxifier) and I believe that it helps as well.

I have a question this post reminded me of... Most magazines advise you to not wash your hair everyday, but for people who work out everyday, how do you go about this without having stinky (or itchy) hair?

DRY SHAMPOO! OSCAR BLANDI DRY SHAMPOO SPRAY ($19 from sephora). I'M YELLING BECAUSE I SWEAR BY IT! I have super curly hair and I blow it out/flat iron it like 2 times a week and it lasts thanks to this genius dry shampoo! I swear by it!

Like pinkerton said, baby powder. It works wonders! And you don't have to be blonde-- brunettes can use it too, just make sure you check the back of your head in the mirror for white spots before you go out!

What color is the Klorane? My problem with dry shampoos is that they are always a whiteish color and then regardless of how much I brush, my hair always has a greyish tinge to it. Bumble and Bumble makes a dry shampoo for brunettes, but it has the most ridiculously powerful aersole spray and my entire bathroom is brown when I am done.

Put a little baby powder on bangs to keep them looking fresh. That is where I have the most trouble. And I hate having to wash my hair, because I just have to blow dry and straighten my hair again. This way I can have them last a little longer.
