How Much Would You Spend on Highlights?

This FabSugar poll about buying expensive handbags got me thinking about why people spend more than they can afford to look their best. If you live in a city like New York or Los Angeles, it's common to drop anywhere from $330 - $550 on a haircut and color in one sitting.

Hot celebrity colorists like Serge Normant, Oscar Blandi, Rita Hazan, Frederic Fekkai, Sally Hershberger and Ted Gibson have sky-high prices—and yet their salons are so packed that it can take months to even get an appointment.

If you could score a session with any of these colorists, how much would you be willing to pay for haute highlights?

This really depends on *where* you live. Here in the Bronx NY I've gotten full hair color, full head of (foil) highlights, hair cut & blow dry for $90. Upstate about 1 hour away my cousin pays $150 for JUST the highlights.

If you get $300 highlights you're just as ugly and $300 poorer after the fact.

i forget how much a full highlights is where i go cause i haven't had one in a while and sometimes i get a cut with it- but its between 100-200. while its expensive, its worth it to me because my girl does a fab job and i always get compliments on it and i haven't had any horror stories where she has messed it up. so i'm willing to pay for the work.

I spent about $250 last time I went in for cut and highlights. I have a hard time justifying that, so I often let my hair go for as long as possible. But it's hard to find a hairstylist used to working with fine, non-asian hair here in Tokyo. So if you find someone you're happy with, you KEEP Them!Next time I have to get a tone, highlight, and a treatment...so it's going to be even more. (weeps)

My hair isn't something that I want to get a bargain on, especially highlights which can easily be messed up.
