How Skilled Would You Say That You Are at Doing Your Own Hair?

This past weekend, I had a pretty bum hair day. I'm trying to let some layers grow out, and the rainy San Francisco weather provided me with a dreaded hairstyle problem. A little bobby pin action, some hairspray, and a flat iron provided the solution. Later, when I glanced at myself in the mirror, I was pretty impressed. I'm no master stylist, but on occasion, I have the ability to channel my inner hairdresser. What about you? When it comes to your hair, how talented are your skills?

I have has just about every hair style you can think of. Curly, straight, short, long, longer and I've even experimented with braids, cornrows and extensions. Now I wear my own hair relaxed and I am in the proccess of growing it out. I am good with my hair and I have a pretty good idea about how to manage it and what products to use and when. :)

Not great. I have a couple of tricks; mostly I've just learned how to deal with it as is.

I think it depends on the day. Sometimes my hair is perfectly placed. Other days I look like a cocka-too!

I would never say that I'm skilled - not in the least. But, with my own hair and all of it's quirks, I can at least make it presentable. I have weird waves, cowlicks, super-thick hair that's sometimes unmanageable, so I kind of know what I need to do to at least make it work for me. It's more like taming the beast rather than styling!!!

I am horrible at styling my own hair! :x

Hair is my thing, the only thing that mostly matters when I leave the house is that my hair look good. I will seriously be depressed the whole day when it doesn't. In HS I used to try to wear my hair diff everyday. I'm not as adventurous now, but I try to switch it up now and then. I permed my hair a few months ago, and that was looking great for a while until now, where the curls are growing out and its sort of annoying that half my hair is straight. But- I try to power that by coming up with diff styles.I'm inspiried by pics & magazines & celebs. But sometimes I'll come up with a style just on my own and a few months later I'll see it on a celeb or in a magazine!! I don't have every technique perfected, but I love variety so I like working on different styles.

I am missing the girl gene - I cannot make my hair do anything. Luckily, my sister can.

I rock a ponytail or a bun every day, mainly cause I have no hairstyling skils whatsoever and because I usually don't have the time.

I wish I was even moderately skilled, my hair is fairly thick and my mom always tried to control or tame it herself by relaxing it or having it relaxed, so I never really got to practice styling my own hair and came to rely on hairdressers. I can barely do a simple braid! I would wear loads of ponytails and the like but for years I wanted to figure out new ways to style my hair and I think I'm learning, the first step I'm going to take is going natural, check out BellaSugar for hair tips and maybe other blogs, and then we'll see...hopefully I'll become "moderately skilled!" :)

I dont just do it straight all the time tho.... I can create waves too with no heat, but I just learned how to maneuver my hair into doing what I want.

I'm excellent at it... since I've had a lot of practice. My own hair is thick and curly. I stopped using a blowdryer and flat iron and found a way to straighten my hair with NO HEAT!!! I've become a master at styles. But I find it fun and relaxing to do my hair. It's not a problem for me.

Errr- ok, I guess. I think I'm actually good at styling it and keeping the curls bouncy, but I keep it a bit more plain than I'd like. My friend has the same curly hair but she's amazing at teasing it and adding the perfect hair accessory, but I can't figure out how to tease properly!

Not skilled, by choice. My hair looks best when it's handled minimally. Besides, my favorite way of wearing my hair is down.

I've only just started to learn how to do my hair, I used to just whip it into a ponytail or leave it down without styling it at all.I've got a few easy styles and I try to play about when I have time..

The worse part is that I have long hair so there is plenty of potential, I am just lazy.

I'm pretty okay; but, for a lot of the things I do to my hair, I need my hairstylist.

Not very good...but I was born with baby-fine, super-straight hair, and there's not much that you CAN do to it. LOL.

not great, but can leave the house without being embarassed. but some of my friends are wizes of hair dressing and in comparison i always felt like a loser.
