How to Use Makeup Primer

4 Clever Ways to Use Primer (Beyond Just Priming)

Makeup artists are the masters of stretching out products, mixing and blending them to create a variety of results. And while your everyday primer might seem like it's just for prepping the face, it turns out there are a surprising number of ways to utilize this skin smoother beyond its primary purpose. See four tips for priming like a pro, with advice from the experts at Benefit and Sephora, when you read more.

  1. To soften fine lines: Mix primer (like Benefit's Porefessional) with concealer to diffuse fine lines and wrinkles, explains Sephora national makeup artist Julie Taing. This combination, available in a new How to Look the Best at Everything kit ($30), is also great for adding extra coverage on areas that need it.
  2. To change the texture of your foundation: Blend foundation with primer for a matte-finish makeup look.
  3. To smooth out the décolletage: Just dab primer on the décolletage for a soft-focus effect.
  4. To keep the t-zone shine-free: As a last touch, blot a bit of primer on the t-zone to keep the oil slicks away.

Great ideas!! Since I fill in my eyebrows I use primer (face or eye and on hot sumemr days both) on my eyebrow area. It defo helps keep the ends of my brows and the start of my brows from fading away when I powder them.

Great tips. I don't know how I lived without primer, frankly.
