We're happy to present this story from our friends at Allure:
Ponytails wrapped in leather are super sexy, make no mistake. But they don't always have to be casual encounters-sexy (hey, unless that's what you're into). Like sky-high stilettos, leather is one of those materials that can either look rich or racy depending on where and how you wear it. And the same applies for leather ponytails. I talked to celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson for three ways to wear the trend depending on your personality. And if you rock the hair whip to meet his parents, don't say we didn't warn you.
If You're: A Good Girl
You don't have to be wearing a corset to pull off a leather ponytail. Just keep it low and sleek. "The lower the ponytail, the more sophisticated and chic you look," says Gibson, who recommends parting the hair to one side, brushing it straight back, and securing it at the nape of the neck. I recently rocked a Goody DoubleWear studded leather ponytail wrap this way at church (yes, you heard that right), and got more compliments than concerned looks. Those hit Target stores in September, but you can also purchase similar ones from Jennifer Behr in a variety of pretty colors.

If You're: A Closet Freak (No, Honest)
So you want to look just a little bit bad? Keep it low but extend the length of the leather wrap. "This is for a girl who is more adventurous," Gibson says. Gibson recommends visiting a local fabric store and purchasing a piece of leather that's five inches in length and two to three inches in width. Attach Velcro strips to each end and secure it around the base of the ponytail for just a hint of bondage.
If You're: Dating Christian Grey
Plant that puppy right on the crown of the head. "It's very S&M, very hot," says Gibson. Slick the hair straight back with gel and tie with a thick leather band for a powerful (whip-like) look. Or, tease the ends of the ponytail to make it a little more trendy and flirty. Just keep your makeup clean and crisp, and, please, no sudden movements. We don't want any injuries as a result of this post.
