Janelle Monae 2011 Met Gala

Met Gala: Janelle Monae

Janelle Monae suited up for the Met Gala in head-to-toe Chanel. Stepping out in a high, ruffle-collared blouse and satin pants, she accessorizes with the design house's diamond brooch and ring. To finish, she adds a dapper topper and veil, but keeps makeup soft. What do you think?

This is her "uniform". She wears variations of shirts and trousers all the time and she looks damn good doing it.

I wish she'd part her hair on the side. I feel like she looks so much younger here...

She is such a beautiful woman but I am not feeling this at all. She could have pushed the envelope a bit but she decided to play it safe and stuck by to her usual look. I swear take away the top hat and that is how she is usually dress when caught in a photo op. Love her music though.

I'm all for over-the-top and a bit of theatricality, especially when the Met honors Alexander McQueen. This, on the other hand, is theatricality done wrong. As much as it pains me to say so, all I get from this look is "waitress at Circus Circus".
