Jessica Simpson Eyelid Surgery on Price of Beauty

The Price of Beauty Talks Double Eyelid Surgery

Last night on The Price of Beauty, the crew headed to Tokyo to experience Japanese aesthetics. They had fun with a bunch of extremely tolerant geishas and played around in Harajuku, but the most interesting part of the show was when they went in to meet a woman considering blepharoplasty, commonly called double eyelid surgery. Blepharoplasty is the most popular cosmetic procedure in Japan and South Korea and is designed to make eyes look bigger by stitching up part of the lid. Jessica Simpson and company were pretty stunned (though CaCee Cobb pointed out that it's all about wanting bigger breasts in the US, so it's not that different), but a lot of the cultural factors in play went unexamined. Still, it was refreshing to see a woman talk openly about the surgery. Check out the video for more.

there's also a condition where your eyelid skin gets droopy (i believe it's called ptosis) and it can kind of sometimes create the double eyelid look but it of course, can reverse it self and sag onto your eyelashes (very uncomfortable) - so i think this surgery would help that.

They got sooo close to hitting one of the biggest reasons why double eyelid surgery is done (emulation of Western ideals) when the girl said she wanted eyes like Jessica's. I'm Asian American with very heavy monolids and I'm always sad that I can't do eye makeup like "regular people" (there's no crease and almost no defining bone structure in my entire eye area, that's how heavy my lids are), but I've realized that I just have to find my own way of doing makeup, and emphasize what features I do like about myself rather than worrying about conforming exactly to an out-of-reach "ideal".
