Since we first laid eyes on Lupita Nyong'o, we've been obsessed. So when we heard that she signed with Lancome, we had a total freakout (think: dancing-at-the-desk excited). The Oscar-winning actress posted a video to her Instagram this morning announcing the news. "I am truly honored to join the Lancome brand with such a prestigious history that I have always loved," she stated in a press release. "I am particularly proud to represent its unique vision for women and the idea that beauty should not be dictated, but should instead be an expression of a woman's freedom to be herself."
Throughout her time in the spotlight, Lupita has spoken out about being a role model for women of color. "For me, beauty is a compassion for yourself and those around you. And I think that in focusing on that, the light inside illuminates the beauty outside," she told WWD. "The idea that Lancome now has a few actor ambassadors is significant because actors are not just faces, they are spirits that people enjoy and relate to more than in an aesthetic way. We have the privilege of standing for something other than just looks."
Now her face and lively spirit will be strewn across magazines, billboards, and television screens as a beacon of beauty (and not just for Black women). Lupita joins Lily Collins as an ambassador for the makeup brand, and you can expect to see her campaigns later this year. Lupita and Lancome, Lancome and Lupita — we love it (and not just because of the alliteration possibilities)!
