MAC's new Alice + Olivia Nail Lacquers ($12 each) are a trio of absolutely gorgeous colors: So Rich So Pretty, a pearlescent bright purple; Military, a matte charcoal shade with subtle silver glitter; and Morning After, a peacock teal.
Both Morning After and So Rich So Pretty had excellent lasting power, as is typical of MAC polishes, but I ran into trouble with Military. While it looks like cool pencil graphite on your nails, unfortunately, the polish chips in a day or two. A top coat might solve the problem, but unless it's a free-from-shine formula, the edgy matte effect will be lost. For an alternative, try Orly's Metal Chic Polish in Iron Butterfly ($7.50), which is almost identical in composition and texture, but without the durability issues.
All three shades are currently sold out online, so you'll have to head into a store to snag them. For a no-fail option from the trio, try Morning After. It looks great on warm and cool skin tones, is bright without being loud, and will transition beautifully from this season into the next.
