Mascara Review: L'Oreal Double Extend Lash Extension

Doing Drugstore: L'Oréal Double Extend Lash Extension Effect Mascara

If you haven't tried tube mascaras yet, you'll be glad to know that drugstore versions are rolling out. One of the first is L'Oréal Double Extend Lash Extension Effect Mascara ($9.79), a two-step mascara with "beauty tube technology."

Tube mascaras are great for making lashes look longer, and because the formulas come off with warm water, they're much easier to remove. I'm a fan of Mirenesse Secret Weapon, but will L'Oréal's version perform as well? For the verdict (with pictures),

.

Voila, my naked peeper.

The first step is to apply a "nourishing base coat." It went on with a few clumps and looked like lash lice. Fortunately, it's just a temporary look. Moving on...

The second step involves the "ultra-lengthening tube top coat," which adds length and color. Don't know if I'd say it's "ultra-lengthening," but it's not bad. However, it's not as good as Lash Blast from Cover Girl, which lengthens and volumizes for less money and one fewer step.

Overall, this isn't a bad mascara — but it's not a great one, either. Pick it up if there's a two-for-one deal, but otherwise, don't make a special trip.

This stuff is definately not worth the hype. I use it am not impressed, my lashes look like they are going to be great when you put the white base coat on but then end up all clumpy when you apply the mascara. I do like the fact that it does NOT smudge or flake until you are ready to take it off with warm water. I have even slept in it and awoke with not a single smudge ;)

SteffiMaus, you're SUPPOSED to use your fingertips. The squiggly lines you see are the TUBES that wrap around your lashes. Your remover is only for other mascaras, but mascaras with TUBE technology only need warm water. :D

I just bought this, and although I like the effect fine, I can't get over the gross weirdness that goes on when I REMOVE it! I use regular, oil-free eye make up remover on a cotton pad, and pressed the soaked pad on my eyes for 30 seconds before wiping (as recommended on the packaging)... ...and I end up with all these tiny black sqiggly flecks everywhere! What's up with THAT? The mascara comes off in single, elastic bits, and it was hard to get them all off! I ended up pulling on my lashes with my fingertips to get them all off! I'll try removing it with warm water tonight, maybe it was the remover... but still, somehow not really worth the weirdness, and I mad stick to my Maybelline GreatLash after all!

I hate all two-step mascaras, no matter what brand, because they always leave my lashes all caky - I'm usually loyal to AVON, since they're great mascaras and there are so many various types, but recently I've been using the CoverGirl Lash Blast, which I am loving(especially the bright orange tube)...

I hate those "tube" mascaras...the lashes look clumpy if you overdo it. And I don't think they're the best for contact lens-wearers like myself.

Great review -- I used to love those double-step mascaras but then when Rimmel came out with the Magnifeyes it was amazing for giving me length, volume, and most importantly for me curl that lasts. Then I got hit with a sample of the new Chanel Exceptionnel and have to switch to high end again because its so amazing! (Hate hate hate using high-end mascaras since you have to toss them so frequently, seems such a waste!)

No prob, I check on caringconsumer-dot-com before I buy cosmetics. Off the top of my head I know that Clinique, Smashbox, Kat von D, and Bare Escentuals don't test on animals, just to name a few. Your options certainly aren't limited. =)

lawchick, peta keeps a list of who has promised not to test on animals: http://www.caringconsumer.com/pdfs/companiesDontTest.pdf and the bad guys: http://www.caringconsumer.com/pdfs/companiesDoTest.pdf bella, i'm SO jealous of your brows!

I haven't had great luck with the 2-step mascaras. Maybelline XXL is a little bit better than this one, but still very fussy. I tend to get my hopes up when I see aaallll those thick, long, white lashes coated with primer, but then it takes so long to cover them with the black and the final result just isn't worth it. I like mascaras that contain lengthening fibers much better. Maybelline Unstoppable is a good, cheap, drugstore one - it lengthens and thickens quite a lot, but it does tend to flake a little bit after wearing it all day.
