5 Top Models Share Their Favorite DIY Skin Care Treatments

Crystal-clear skin, a glowing complexion, and rosy cheeks pretty much sum up the faces that make it down the runways at New York Fashion Week. However, while it's obvious that a good dermatologist and a consistent skin care routine are important for these models to get a flawless complexion pre-showtime, there's more that goes into it. When we chatted with them backstage, we found out that they do their own at-home DIYs.

Considering models need their skin to be at the top of its game during Fashion Week, their DIY beauty claims seem like a foolproof way to tackle your toughest skin concerns on a budget (since you can usually find the ingredients in your kitchen). So, give these model-approved tips a try the next time you have your own big event to prep for. You won't be disappointed in the results, we promise.

"One thing I really like to do to my skin is rub ice on my face every night and in the morning to keep my skin really tight and my pores invisible," said Victoria's Secret model Jasmine Tookes backstage at the Carolina Herrera show. Considering her pores were pretty much undetectable to the naked eye, ice just became our new best friend when it comes to skin care.

Sure, everyone's familiar with the unparalleled beauty powers of coconut oil, but it turns out that models swear by its skin-glowing results as well. "I only use one product to moisturize my face in the weeks leading up to Fashion Week, and that's coconut oil," said model Hanne Gaby Odiele backstage before the DKNY fashion show. "My skin absorbs it so nicely that it's the only trick I trust."

"If I wake up looking tired before a show, I'll cut up parsley, place it on the skin under my eyes and put a cotton pad soaked in milk on top of that so that the dark circles disappear," model Maria Senko explained backstage at Naeem Khan. But that's not her only trick — similar to aestheticians everywhere, Maria also swears by the powers of cucumber slices. "People put cucumber slices only over their eyes but I put it on my whole face because it's cooling and soothes any redness."

While backstage at the Alexander Wang fashion show, Victoria's Secret model Taylor Hill let us in on a DIY recipe she learned from her mother: "My mom makes a really cool, homemade body scrub using solid coconut oil that she melts down, mixes with brown sugar and stores in the fridge to harden. After it's hardened, we take it out and use it in the shower as a body exfoliator."

Similar to Taylor Hill's body scrub recipe, model Rebecca Munro told us backstage at Derek Lam that she likes to make her own DIY body exfoliator for the shower as well. "I like to mix sea salt and coconut oil in a bowl and then scrub it on my arms and legs for soft skin before Fashion Week," she explains.
