People's Choice Awards: Hits and Misses

Jan 9 2013 - 10:00am

Get excited, because award season 2013 is officially kicking off tonight with the 39th annual People's Choice Awards! PopSugar will be streaming live from the People's Choice Awards [1] red carpet starting at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST, so be sure to tune in. But before all the excitement begins, let's take a look back at People's Choice beauty looks from years past: both the good and the not-so-good.

Miss: Katherine Heigl, 2007

Katherine Heigl [2] is typically a head turner on the red carpet, though this unusual fingerwaved ponytail look had heads turning for the wrong reasons.

Miss: Christina Applegate, 2007

Christina Applegate [3] is as beautiful as she is talented, but her orange-toned eye shadow look was a bit harsh for her fair-skinned features.

Miss: Debra Messing, 2009

We love funny-lady Debra Messing [4] to pieces. Her piecey hair and pale peach makeup, however, was not a crowd-pleaser back in 2009.

Miss: Kaley Cuoco, 2010

Let's hope this year's host, Kaley Cuoco, has a much better beauty year than she did in 2010.

Miss: Ashley Tisdale, 2011

At the 2011 show, Ashley Tisdale [5]'s tan was perhaps a tad too tawny.

Miss: Kelly Osbourne, 2012

We love Kelly Osbourne for her risk-taking ways, but we still remain uncertain about this orange shadow paired with drab-toned hair.

Hit: Sandra Oh, 2007

Oh, Sandra Oh [6], you were a shining example of exactly how to use metallic shadow on 2007's red carpet. Pretty pink-kissed cheeks and a tousled updo lent a chic element to the overall look.

Hit: Eva Longoria, 2007

With her perfect blow-out and deep, silvery, smoky eye makeup, Eva Longoria [7]'s 2007 style was modern glamour at its finest.

Hit: Sandra Bullock, 2010

Sandra Bullock [8]'s winged-out liner coupled with a creamy pink makeup palette proved to be a gorgeous example of how to do retro beauty right.

Hit: Dania Ramirez, 2010

Dania Ramirez demonstrated that matching your eye shadow to your dress can indeed be done. The key? Add contrast by applying a shadow that is subtly darker or lighter than your frock, and fully line the eyes to ground the makeup.

Hit: Olivia Wilde, 2010

Olivia Wilde [9] looked absolutely divine in bold pink lipstick and seashell shadow at the 2010 awards. And that skin? Get us the number of her dermatologist, stat!

Hit: Ginnifer Goodwin, 2012

A mix between classy, flirty, and retro, Ginnifer Goodwin [10]'s 2012 People's Choice Awards hair and makeup was about as timeless as they come.
