Quick Experiment: Creating Nude Lips Using Concealer and Gloss

Here's an excerpt from OnSugar blog The Make-Up Blogette.

One reader was asking me if nude lips can be created using a foundation/concealer followed by a lip gloss... and I thought that would make a rather fun and useful blog post.

First I used NYX Concealer in a Jar (Porcelene) which is frankly too pale for me as a concealer. This color erases my lip color completely, too pale and ghastly for my liking.  It also looks drying, especially on the lower lip.

Then, I applied MAC's Underage lipglass over, for some definition and texture. Still very pale, but I will show you the whole face to put things into perspective. Then I tried another concealer, which is the peachy shades in the Ben Nye concealer wheel.  These are darker in tone. Again, very drying on the lips.  I don't think the difference is very obvious.

The verdict? I think if you like really nude lips, you can certainly try this out!  Kind of drying on the lips though. Also, I guess you can do this as a last resort if you want to explore the whole pale/ nude lips thingy, but are not sure if you want to pay for a nude lipstick at MAC or something. We know it is hard to find a nice nude lipstick at drugstore price range, though I highly recommend NYX round lipsticks for cheap alternatives.

I think it's a waste of money to buy nude lipstick, so I've always just used my powder. I just dust it over my whole face. It doesn't make my lips look clumpy or cakey, and it doesn't make them taste weird like foundation or concealer might. Plus since I top it with SoftLips it doesn't make them dry. Just a nice natural look. :)

I've used vaseline followed by liquid foundation then gloss and it turned out pretty good. A little thick but the texture was pretty even.

I've blended my concealer with some clear gloss (c.o.bigelow mentha gloss) for an ultra nude lip. i tried doing concealer and layering gloss first but that felt really...not pleasant haha. it definitely helps to mix on your hand and apply with a brush rather than apply straight from tube.

ladeekim - I think Harmonica, Circe, Strawberry Milk are pretty! If you go to the mascara.page. where I got them you can see a range of swatches etc etc to get a better idea... hope this helps!

I've tried a similar method before as an alternative to achieving really nude lips (I realised my MAC lip products were prob the ones that are giving me super dry lips...). I actually tried it out with liquid foundation instead of concealer. What shade of NYX lipsticks would you recommend? I've wanted to try NYX for the longest time but everytime i see all the different shades, i'm lost!

sara - I agree, it does feel rather clumpy as I blend out the concealer, and got a little worse when I applied the lip gloss....

I've tried concealer and lipgloss to achieve nude lips and I find that it usually ends up a bit 'clumpy' on or just doesn't look overly flattering. I do however like how dead nude most of them end up looking. And yes, I'm guessing your first rave would be the La Mer product?
