This Pretty DIY Proves the Ponytail Is Anything but Basic

It seems like we never have enough time in the morning to DIY the pretty braids we see on Pinterest. Instead, we usually just throw our next-day hair into a basic ponytail and give up — that is, until we saw this supersimple style. Melissa Cook at Latest-Hairstyles.com proves with this easy tutorial that even if you hit the snooze button, you can create this pretty, dreamy style. Grab a brush, two hair elastics, some bobby pins, and hairspray, and keep reading to learn how.

Step 1

Step 1

Start with brushed and detangled hair. Separate two small sections — one on each side of your head — from the rest of your mane.

Step 2

Step 2

Pull the two sections toward the back of the head over the rest of your hair, then fasten them with a small elastic band.

Step 3

Step 3

Using this small ponytail section, create a basic three-strand braid. Fasten the end with another hair elastic.

Step 4

Step 4

Starting at the end of the braid, roll up the plait sideways toward your first elastic band, creating a rosette shape.

Step 5

Step 5

Using several bobby pins, secure the rosette to the rest of your hair. Tuck the pins behind the plait so they aren't visible.
