Dermatologist and Simple Advisory Board member Dr. Debra Luftman gives her top tips for healthy Summer skin.
After this year's epic winter, it's only normal that city dwellers everywhere are counting down the days until they can soak up the sun. While it is important to make the most of a sunny day, keep weather-specific skincare concerns top of mind. Running in the park, checking out the farmer's market, and enjoying a meal al fresco are great outdoor activities — but without protection, our skin is subject to the elements: unpredictable weather, pollution, and UVA/UVB exposure can make all skin sensitive.
As a Board Certified and practicing Dermatologist and a member of the Simple Advisory Board, I see firsthand how women aren't aware of how their everyday city lifestyle can impact the look and feel of skin. Simple Skincare recently surveyed women in the top 40 cities across the country and uncovered that they have room for improvement when it comes to their skincare habits. Luckily, with the right products and a holistic skincare approach, there are a variety of ways to get city skin glowing. Here's my top tips for keeping your city skin looking naturally healthy all year long, no matter your zip code.
- Shield your skin from the elements, especially the sun's damaging UVA/UV rays. Simple's recent survey shows that nearly 60 percent of women are not actively trying to protect skin from environmental elements such as the sun or wind. This is the first place we need to be starting! Simple Protecting Light Moisturizer with SPF 15 meets the FDA sunscreen monograph and is a great daily option to protect skin.
- Start a skincare routine and stick to it! Less than half (37 percent) of women are actively trying to stick to a skincare routine at the moment. This number struck me as being surprisingly low since women must have a consistent skincare routine in order to maintain healthy, glowing skin.
- Get holistic when it comes to overall health. This includes the right facial products and regimen, but also lifestyle considerations like diet, fitness, and stress management. Use products that are sensitive to skin's needs and contain no dyes, artificial perfumes or harsh irritants, like those from Simple Skincare. Oftentimes, what is left out is as important as what is put in when it comes to products.
