Swiss Kriss: The Laxative I Use Only on My Face

Sometimes, you find out that a beauty staple in your house growing up is something nobody else has ever heard of, and maybe even a little weird. Swiss Kriss Herbal Laxative Flakes ($6) are like that for me. My mom loves this stuff, and until recently, I never knew people seriously used it as anything else but a facial steam — sprinkled in a pot of hot water, it works absolute wonders for pores, and calms down irritation and redness, too. As a teenager, whenever I was breaking out, my mother would put a pot of water on to boil, pour a couple of scoops of Swiss Kriss in, and make me stand over the steam with a towel over my head for five minutes or so. I'd come out looking like I'd just gotten a facial.

The other day, I started looking for it online, only to discover that people seemed to be using it for its intended purpose, and was totally confused. Have you heard of Swiss Kriss? And if not, has anything like this ever happened to you? By the way, I seriously recommend the flakes if you're trying to clear a breakout gently — they're magic.

my grandma would tie cabbage leaves and and onions to my forehead to get rid of zits, they suppose to suck the puss out. and it did help :)

Are you referring to the piddle treatment, grly, or the laxatives? I applaud your mom's resourcefulness, Chrstne, but given the choice between zits or putting urine on my face...I'll love my zits! And wow, my family is totally unimaginative when it comes to beauty treatments. I'm racking my brain, but I'm coming up empty!

I'm not sure I could take pee on my face so the MoM seems like a better bet for me!

Well, my mom told me when I had a small breakout to put pee on a cotton ball and put it on my faced! She did this all the time, and had clear skin her entire life. Me? I did it two or so times, and then resorted to using apple cider vinegar instead. Both smell terrible, but work great at evening out your skin tone and helping breakouts.

After washing my face, I just take a cotton ball and swipe the MOM all over my face. Let it dry and then wash it off. (it dries somewhat like a clay mask) It seriously leaves your face really smooth and glowy. I've used it as spot-clearing for a random zit before too.. just dab it on and leave it overnight for that. I read it somewhere YEARS ago, but never tried it til last year!

Never heard of this or the "Milk of Magnesia". How do you do the MoM, Spiderlove? I'm totally into home remedies/beauty products. Ooh - something new to try.
