Trend Alert: New Year, Long Waves

OK, I know it's nothing all that earth-shattering since long waves have been in fashion long before the Farrah Fawcett days. But this New Year's Eve, it was all about the soft cascading curl. Whether it was a more-refined look like Ashlee Simpson and Eva Longoria Parker or tousled and undone à la Molly Sims and Chloë Sevigny, the look was still sexy — and a little more inspired than pin-straight locks. Want some loose waves? Keep a large-barreled (at least one inch or larger) curling iron open and wrap your hair around the barrel for a few seconds and release. Is this the iconic hairstyle of the 2000s? We have one more year to find out, but I'm betting yes.

I got a 2" barrelled curling iron at the dollar store for about $12, amieeb. It has not damaged my hair & has about 20 settings on it. These women are absolutely gorgeous BTW! I was going to cut mine, too but now thinking twice.

idk, I think Heidi's and Carmen's are a little TOO curly... Molly's are perfect imo. I wish I could get my hair to stay like that

i did this today - i have naturally curly hair, but curly, not wavy so if i put mousse in it, it won't look like this...i also have side bangs and my hair is normally fairly straight as a result of a flat iron...so my tip to make the waves in this case is to blowdry hair so that the bangs look good and straight but the rest is not fully dry...then brush hair cream through it to get rid of frizzies, then sleep on it. when you wake up, it will be dry and wavy and shouldn't be frizzy

Ive tried hard Dublin; I have 2 diff curling irons, one 3/4" and the other 1 1/2" and I can't achieve a wave like carmen electra or lauren conrad. My hair comes out with more curl instead. I think I might have to give a spiral curling iron a try..

Well,I was going to cut my hair short but now I'm not sure... Eva's hair is ridiculous for me

I actually hate Heidi's hair - I always think it looks like it needs a trim and it always looks super fake (just like her). but I do love the loose waves, but I have never been able to master them - my hair is too thick. I got to say, though, out of those pictures, I think Ashlee's hair is the only one that actually epitomizes this style - the rest are quite mediocre in my opinion. I can't stand the girl, but I love Ashlee's hair in that pic...

Correct me if I am wrong but doesn't a thick or wide barrel curling iron achieve this look? Montag has bitchin' hair. Though I suspect she has extensions in.

If only I had longer hair ****sigh***** Could you still achieve waves on chin-length hair?

This is a beautiful style... and not that hard to do either.

Has anyone tried using a spiral curling iron??

Montag wants to get some lowlights. The waves are rather nice though

Yay! My hair is naturally like this. I suffered through the straightening craze in college, but I've been wearing it wavy for a while now. I love it; it's so easy for me!

I agree Eva's hair does not have the same look to it. I love this style for hair and always wear my hair like this, even thought now I chopped it all off. I'm curious as well which curling iron works best that isn't $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$.

I dont think Eva's hair looks like long waves AT ALL really.

I think the woman who epitomizes the wave as of late is Lauren Conrad. Those big loose waves with her long hair look fab and I'm dying to know what products, curling iron or straightener (ghd?) does she use to achieve that... Please post a tutorial on hair like hers and LL's.
