True Blood Gets a Makeup Line With Tarte Cosmetics

True Blood Gets Its Own Makeup Collection

Everyone's favorite vampy drama, True Blood, is back for season four. And if you've ever wished to spiff yourself up like Sookie, now there's a makeup line for Truebies. Tarte has just rolled out details on Tarte for True Blood, a three-product collection that ties in with the show. The cheek stain, lip tint, and makeup palette were designed by Brigette Myre-Ellis, the show's lead makeup artist. Eagle-eyed viewers of the show may remember that vampire Pam uses a Nars lip pencil, but with Myre-Ellis's involvement, this licensed line offers a bloody good way to be a fan.

I would be interested. I think with Sookie, I would need some false eyelashes because that is the first thing I notice when the camera does a closeup on her face.

Love the detailed review. Thanks for sharing it. I was actually wondering about some of the lighter shades and how they might look on medium-to-dark complexions. Bummer to hear that some are too ashy. I think it would be cool to have steps on getting a typical look for some of the main characters. (OK, maybe not Arlene, who I love, but whose look is a little much for me.) Wouldn't it be fun to find out how to get a Tara, Sookie, or Maryann look?

Okay I got my palette yesterday and I was playing around the shades, and in all it is pretty good pay off. The only con is that the eyeshadow primer sucks on me. It made blending the colors harder for me. I have extremely oily lids so I got better application with my Too Faced Shadow Insurance, which is my go to primer. The mascara is average for me. It doesn't make my eyes itch or water so that is a plus. I don't spend a lot on mascara so I won't be purchasing Tarte's brand. The eyeliner is really soft so be very gentle or you break it off in a way that will not come up. Not a lot of pressure is needed to get even application.Since I am dark complexioned (equivalent to MAC NW45/NW47, NARS Benares/Trinidad, Revlon Colorstay Cappuccino/Mahogany) some of the shade may read a bit frosty/ashy so you might regulate them as brow bone highlighter. As far as pigmentation, it is pretty good. Nothing dramatic or over the top so it is totally work safe. Some of the shades do crumble but I noticed with the metallic/sparkly shades that are expected. The matte shades are very creamy. As for creasing, there was some creasing. But again with my oily lids, that comes with the territory. The palette comes with a couple of looks you can do. I tried a couple and it looked a mess on my skin tone. When I did a look on my own just putting some random colors together (well not randomly since I just copied some pairings from NARS and Lancome duos) I got a better look. Thank goodness I have a variety of eyeshadow brushes since some brushes do not work well with these shadows. The shades offered are pretty dupe-able and not unique at all. In fact the shade "The True Death" which is a silver shade with lots of shimmer is an exact dupe for Black Radiance Chrome/Steel Duo, the Chrome shade on the left. Some of the eyeshadows even look very close to some NARS shade I have. In fact Tarte's "V" bears some semblance to NARS "Belly Dance" duo. But I don't feel like digging for it because I have my makeup meticulously packed (ehhh not really *lol*) and trying to get that shade I would repack everything once I get it. Never mind I do this weekly *lol*. In fact Tarte's "Nocturnal" reminds me of NARS China Blue or Night Flight, the one with the blue pearl shimmer. In all, if you are a True Blood fan, you would like this as a collectors item but if you are expecting some unique shade, I would pass.

Let me know how it looks. I'm curious!

I am somewhat interested and in fact ordered the eyeshadow palette. I kind of regretted it since I'm afraid that the shadow colors would be a bit chalky on me.

There's TB hand sanitizer?! Crazy.

My brother bought me some True Blood hand sanitizer last Christmas. It's red and smells really good. I'd like to try the lip tint.

I shall consider your suggestion, Mr. Feekes. Andrea, I want to check it out, too. I bet the red looks pretty as a wash of color on cheeks.

I just so want that cheek stain :) that's the most original and more applying of the collection to me, even I have to say that the corset like design of the eyeshadow box is nice
