What Are Beard Transplants?

Beard Transplants Are Now a Thing

Not all dudes can achieve a majestic mustache like the one above. If you or someone know you grow a beard more sparse than (lumber)sexual, there's now a surgical option: facial hair transplants. According to The New York Times, this cosmetic procedure is dramatically on the rise among baby-faced bros. Dr. Jeffrey Epstein, a plastic surgeon with practices in New York and Miami, says that he performs an average of three facial hair transplants per week, an increase from approximately five annually in 2005.

These are not obvious hair plugs — doctors now can transplant single hair follicles from the back of the head to the cheeks, chin, or wherever patchy scruff grows in. However, fantastic facial hair doesn't come cheap. This procedure can cost anywhere from $2,000 to $22,000, depending on where you get this done (plastic surgery is often more costly in metropolitan areas) and how many times you need to revisit your surgeon. But for the man who's always been insecure about his smooth skin, the ability to grow a beard might be priceless.
