What Are Private Sale Sites?

Do You Shop at Private Sale Sites?

Much like the fashion world has sample sales, the beauty industry is developing its own private sale sites. As more and more brands struggle in a tough economy, sites such as Gilt Groupe, The Fairest, BeautyTicket, and the invitation-only Rue La La provide slashed prices and bundled bargains on excess product or outdated packaging to members.

While some critics claim that deep discounts are essentially cheapening brands in the long run, others view it as a sign of the changing times. "Initially, it may have been something to do with the recession," Paula Scandone of HauteLook told WWD. "It really comes down to acquiring new customers. As we know, customers are not shopping the same way they used to, and they never will again." What do you think about these private sale sites? Are you dazzled by discounted goods, or do you prefer to shop offline?

woah; now it seems as if Bella is trying to censor me - my comment has been flagged even though it did not meet any of the criteria - "The comment you posted has been flagged for approval. We flag any comment with links, images, or curse words, and also flag the first post from new users."well; my comment did not contain any link, image, or curse word; and I am not a new user. all I said was that that member JeanneLo is most likely a representative for Ocadite; a product that was reviewed on Bella earlier; and people should probably not trust anything he/she says. what; is TeamSugar in cahoots with him/her now? the whole thing seems fishy...

I looked into those website because of the economy and I have to say the pricing is pretty cool. However, I feel that it is like buying the leftovers that are old and not effective anymore. i read a post on bella about a brand that has the exact opposite philosophy, trying to produce freshly made skincare, so it doesn't sit on shelves... I think the name is Odacity or Odacite...anyway, I though the idea made a lot of sense.

Would buy it if the shipping wasn't twice the price of the product I was buying. honestly, that's ridiculous! (like a $3 urban decay shadow)

I shop Gilt, Hautelook, Ruelala, ideeli, One Kings Lane, and The Fairest--love love LOVE them. It took me over the course of several months, but I purchased all of my Christmas gifts last year from these sites. It's definitely worth it.

Gilt is *still* a little too expensive for me, but I love window shopping there! However, I've bought several things of Hautelook, which in my opinion is a little bit more affordable but doesn't normally have the widely famous and well known labels Gilt has. From Hautelook I've gotten a Lorac makeup bundle for $18 (retail $98), Amrita Singh earrings for xmas presents for $14 each (retail $100 each), a DEPT shirt and a black trench coat for $47 (retail $200). Clearly, I'm showing signs of addiction!!

I'm wearing a shirt bought from Gilt right now, and carrying a brand new Joie tote bag that I also got on there this week! LOVE THESE SITES! If anyone wants an invite to RueLaLa, Gilt or HauteLook, send me a message!

Anonymous #1 (or comment #2), the site I use is legitimate (beautyticket.com). It's gotten multiple awards.
