Way back in my retail days, we would have short meetings before the work day started, and these sessions would often involve some kind of selling exercise or product demonstration. One particular "selling exercise" stood out.
The boss asked for us to list all of the beauty products we were wearing or had used that day, including shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, makeup, and creams. I mean everything. Then, we had to estimate how much each item retailed for, and add up the total.
The point was that customers are willing to spend, and that many items are necessities. I suppose that's debatable. I just did the math, and today, I am (roughly) guessing that I'm sporting about $177 worth of beauty goods. Ouch. What's your magic number?
