What Was Your Biggest High School Beauty Mistake?

In high school, I made tons of beauty missteps, most of them coif-related: dying my hair bright orange (then wearing red lipstick), experimenting waaaay too much with Sun-In — so much so that my teachers jokingly gave me a bottle as a graduation gift — and several misadventures with glue-in hair extensions. I look back on it now and can't help but smile. The pictures are pretty cute, and a part of me is impressed by baby Bella's bravery. I also wonder why my poor parents said nothing, stifling giggles as they must have been. What about you? Did you make any beauty decisions that turned out to be hilariously misguided?

Mostly, it was just how thick my makeup was, whether it was the eye shadow or base. That and crunchy hair.

Never learning how to apply make-up. My father wouldn't allow us to wear it and I was to goody-goody to sneak it. I'm still, at 42, clueless about make-up, plucking brows (my mom shaved hers off then penciled them back, I NEVER thought that was a good idea), etc. Also really bad at home perms! Got natural curls now, love em, but the perms, no make-up and cluelessness made me a bit of a wacko in school, beaty wise anyway!

i used to tuck my hair behind my ears, but leave two wisps on either side of my face....it was barf. i did it in a school picture and my mom made me get it retaken.

The only thing I regret is letting my hair get really long and boring junior year. Other than that I had fun experimenting, and didn't do a lot with my hair and makeup that I wouldn't do now.

Oh where do I start.... I over plucked my eyebrows, dyed my natural dark brown locks platinum blonde (it looked horrible) and wore super low jeans with belly shirts (influenced by Britney Spears). I cringe every time I see photos!!!

Oh snap... it was the way I tweezed my brows. Horrible... I think it was too much of everything. Teens have a habit of loving something to an extreme. I blame the hormones.

mletrav...brown lipstick used to be my THING in middle school lol!! when i would wear tight jeans and my brother's huge Nautica t-shirts. ewwww. High school, my biggest beauty mistake can be summed up in 2 words : spiral perm

Same here -- too much aqua net hairspray. My hair did not move. Fortunately, no one lit a match near me, as my hair would have went up in flames. :)

I too was a victim to sun in... and also to really poorly plucked eyebrows (shortened, but not cleaned up in the arch = caterpillar effect!) I also got into brown lipstick when it was trendy (late 90's - so more middle school for me than high school.) Overall, it wasn't the best!

Oh, the horror! I put a perm in my poker-straight hair, then I put in a hairband, teased my hair and sprayed lots and lots of hairspray in, until the whole mess was rock hard and disgusting. I still don't have a clue why on earth I felt that was a good idea. And I did that again and again. Why didn't my mother of best friend stop me, I wonder? Thankfully I wasn't experimenting with make up yet.

Waaaay too much make-up. A boyfriend asked me if I had on a mask. I hated my freckles back then and covered them. And I plucked my eyebrows. They are naturally pretty thin but I went way over the top and looked like Pamela Anderson.

Was, and am, a major low maintenance girl. I was a total jock in school but I was so ashamed of my bitten-down nails, I lived in home-done fake nails. They were always wacky colors, and the worst was when they'd pop off in the middle of practice!

Crazy thin eyebrows, a ridiculous amount of black eyeliner, and overly teased/messy birds nest hair *cringe*

My perms! They really damaged my hair.

WAY too thick eyebrows and glitter as eyeshadow. Thick, chunky glitter. Everyone at the time loved it...but...now I am older and wiser and know much better!

^ That's funny Advah, I used to do that in junior school and it looked even bushier than it does now. Curly hair should not be brushed! I never really wore make-up in high school, but my hair always looked a mess because it's so unmanageable!

Brushing my curly hair! Good thing I realised a few months after I started highschool that my hair looked much better unbrushed..

Haha I moved to canada when i was 12, all the popular girls were very pale, i was a dark California girl. What did i do? Well started wearing the lightest Ivory foundation shade Covergirl has to offer.. you know the one that is basically translucent? It looked like a mark on my face! Luckily soon enough everyone there wanted tans and i fit right in.
