What's Your Take on Palettes?

What's Your Take on Palettes?

Makeup palettes usually offer pretty good deals, giving you more makeup than you'd get from buying items separately. Witness Sephora's color play palette ($22), which provides 36 eye shadows, 12 lip glosses, three blushes, and a bronzer in one kit. If that's not an insane deal, then I don't know what is.

I like to travel with palettes because it's so much easier than packing separate products, but on a day-to-day basis, I confess that I barely use them. They sit neglected in the bowels of my beauty cabinet, passed over for whatever makeup I feel like wearing on any given day. And so, while I love the idea of palettes, I am unable to commit to them. Are you a fan of the all-in-one concept, or do you like the idea better in theory than in practice?

I love palette, but not the big ones. Usually I choose the safe warm colors. I have Clinique, L'oreal, NYX and local brand named LT Pro. I count how many colors I could actually use before deciding to buy. That's why coastal scent palette never appealed to me. The only exception I've made is Tarte Treasure Chest. :D

I love palettes :)! Started about 5 years with 2 Stila palettes. I still use them today and change out the colors. I also have a Bobbi Brown one with natural matte colors.

I just bought a few vintage palettes by Too Faced and I was so excited. After I applied all my products, it occured to me, how the heck am I supposed to reapply my gloss later in the day? So while I still love my recent palette purchases, I think they're more for travel. I'll still use them when the mood strikes, but the lip products will probably go unused until my next vacay.

I like eye shadow pallets. But I don't really like the ones that come with blush and lip gloss and stuff. :)

Palettes are amazing! It's a great way to be able to play with colour without having to buy a large amount of the experimental colour you want to take for a test drive. Plus I think it's handy to have a large variety of colours. However just like some of the people above I'm not to big on the lip gloss being in the palette, I like to by my lip colour and gloss in separates.

I'm tempted by them but never bother to buy. I do, however, love the Mary Kay set-up whereby I get to make my own palette. I have used that to take one or two colour choices (eye, cheeks, lips) with me on trips.

I really love palettes, but only the little ones--I could never really deal with one that has more than eight colors. I like to swipe my shadow on, blend, and go--and little palettes (I have a neutralish one from Estee Lauder that I love) are perfect for that.

Not a fan - I always end up with one color completely whiped out, while the other (less appealing) colors remain... I'd rather buy only the colors I want/need.

I have some mixed feelings on palettes. I like them for travel (as mentioned), but I also like the fact that one can try different colors, determine which ones look good on them and try endless combinations for new looks. One other thing I have found to be a positive feature is, due to the varied colors, I have just the color on hand if a friend wants some help with their makeup. The colors that I don't find appealing on myself are, sometimes, just the ones a friend needs. I prefer not to get the ones with lip gloss in....I find that they become messy, unless the glosses are packaged in their own tube. Also, I love to use the darker colors to line my eyes with. What I don't like about them is, people tend to hold onto makeup well past when it is still fresh. No one likes to toss makeup. I personally am ruthless with mine. I get rid of colors that I don't use, anything that has passed the time one is supposed to use that particular makeup type for and colors that were only trends. I also don't generally care for the blush colors...I have seen some good ones. When choosing one, I have to make myself hold back, look at how many colors I will really use, what brand it is and if there is something about that palette that sets it apart from the others. In all, I think they are a great way stretch your money. I can imagine that teens and younger women might like them more. Once we have gotten to a certain age, many women are "stuck" in the same routine and do not use any of the colors that aren't almost the same as those that they are used to. I will try most any look. I've done makeup for years and, although I don't always stick to the rules, a new fresh look can perk you right up.

I LOVE palettes soooo much.....BUUUTTT i cannot commit to them either! I thought it was just me. Even if it is expensive makeup, i feel like I'm using cheapy elementary school makeup when I'm using a palette. I guess all the flashy housing of makeup really subconsciously sells it.

I usually get the quads or something. I don't really like wearing some colors (green and blue and yellow) so, I feel like it's "wasting" away in the palettes... oh well.

I don't like full face palettes because, as someone with brown skin, the blush and face colors are rarely pigmented enough or suited to dark skin.I really like some of the Coastal Scents palettes, just cause I never have to worry about not having a color anymore and I can buy full sized favorites without wasting money on a lime green shadow I'll use once. I really like the Smashbox quads and Blush/Bronzer or Highlighter duos. I tend to stay away from the Sephora super palettes, because like Detail said I think the quality is way down and unlike the CS palettes they're still a bit expensive.I do like that with MAC you can put things into palettes because they save so much space...especially when you wear a lot of mineral shadows and baked blushes like me.

I like all the choices you get from them but sometimes they're not as good quality as the individual eyeshadows

I only like eyeshadow palettes as well. I've found that because I change up my routine every day, I don't really ever use singles all the way (or even most of the way) before they get unspeakably old. I like the variety of palettes and I pay about the same for one 12-shadow palette that I would for two single shades. I don't like palettes that come with face stuff (bronzer, blush, highlighter) because they're never big enough to get a good brush into without accidentally getting lipgloss or like, green eyeshadow mixed in, and nothing is worse than a streaky bronzer effect because you used your fingers or something! Plus, the lipgloss always gets sticky and gross.
