"I'm shaking," Rebecca Brown told her YouTube channel subscribers. In her hands was a large electric razor. According to Cosmopolitan, about three percent of the population suffers from trichotillomania, a disorder that causes sufferers to have a compulsive, continuous urge to pull out their hair — and the 23-year-old is part of that group.

Because she has spent nearly half her life plucking strands from her scalp, patchy, damaged sections take ages to grow out. Rebecca decided to shave her hair in an attempt to even out the length of her mane, but also in an act of self-preservation.

"It's either shave my hair, or lose my hair," she declared. This is not the first time she's shaved her head, but she does look anxious about the act. She finally stated, "I'm fed up [of] being triggered and tortured . . . and I really don't feel like I have any other option."

She bravely picked up the tool and started shaving, hair falling everywhere. Though Rebecca is crying in the video, she perseveres — and eventually, her tears seemed to be out of joy. "It feels really nice," she said as she rubbed her fuzzy scalp. Though it is complicated, we hope that shaving away her strands gets her another step closer to conquering her disorder.
