Yes To Carrots Seed Fund and Whole Foods Team Up For School Garden Grants

Yes To Carrots Says Yes to Helping Kids Garden

Skin care brand Yes To and Whole Foods want to know how your garden grows, or at least how it would grow if you received a grant to create one. The companies are partnering on a new initiative to create school gardens that will teach kids about nutrition and sustainability. And from now until May 31, they're taking applications. To find out more, just keep reading.

The Seed Fund Grant project was conceived as a way to engage communities and teach children how to live healthier lives through gardening. And what kid is going to turn down the opportunity to play in the dirt with full grown-up approval?

Ten schools in California and the Pacific Northwest will receive $2,000 Seed Fund grants, and another five nationwide will get $500 "starter garden" grants. To get a grant, though, you'll need "compelling stories consistent with the Seed Fund mission, a well thought-out plan to maintain your school garden, and innovative ideas about incorporating the Seed Fund garden into your school’s curriculum and life," according to the application.

So get your essays together and bring out your shovels. This sounds like a pretty sweet deal for 15 lucky schools — enough to make us almost wish we were back in seventh grade.
