Are You a Beauty Hoarder?

Are You a Beauty Hoarder?

Some of us throw all our products away every six months like clockwork, while others, like the pup in the picture, hoard our stuff until we're forced to throw it away. Most of us are probably somewhere in between, but we all have tendencies one way or another. There are people, for example, who scrupulously dispose of their mascara, but keep perfume for decades on end, and those who can't bear to part with old brushes but would never keep nail polish more than a couple months. Where are you on the spectrum, and what are your quirks?

I tend to go through items like bronzer, lipstick and mascara fast - so I don't have a problem with keeping beyond expiration. Eye shadow however is a different story! I have some eyeshadow that is a probably five years old. If it gets hard or doesn't go on right, I throw it away. I found that as long as I clean my makeup brushes faily frequently (I use merle norman), that my eye shadow keeps much longer. Foundation - I hardly ever wear unless I am going to a wedding or something. With as expensive as foundation can be, and how little I wear, I keep it in the fridge until I need it. This way, a bottle lasts me about 2 years without going bad.

I'm not a hoarding type of person. I tend to use things until it finishes and then throw it out. Even perfume. I buy one bottle, use it all up before I buy another bottle.

I generally keep stuff until it is empty.

i don't have that much make-up. well at least in comparison to the youtube gurus i've been watching 24/7 lately and I feel i have nothing (actually i have an Ikea wooden storage box http://images.google.co.uk/images?q=fira%20ikea&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-GB:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi full of stuff)

I hoard, but I'm also realistic. If I'm unlikely to use it, then I'll toss it or give it away if unopened/unused. However if it is a product I like, then I'll get multiples of it.

I love collecting, have many things I've barely used. But for the most part I toss

I've still got glosses from junior high! (They would be about 6 years old now) But for the most part I use products up before they get old.

@ glowingmoon - please tell me you're kidding :D I'm a bit of a maniac for some things (foundation, lipsticks, lotions and generally stuff that goes directly on the skin) to the point I write down the date I've started using them to make sure I trow them away before they get too old! I do keep gifts and things that I'm attached to, but I don't use them if they're old.

No. I'm a minimalist. I don't even own make-up. :)

Often I can't stand to throw things away, especially if I spent a lot of money on them or feel particularly attached for some reason

This one hits home. I recently threw away some eyeshadow after it made my eyes burn and skin turn red. I hadn't remembered it doing that before... After a few minutes of thought I realized that it was 12 years old! Time to go...

I keep most things but throw things away that are completely empty, though usually I go out and buy it again. I like to keep things that look cute or have nice containers like perfumes and stuff.

I keep things. If I replace something, I will throw something out. Lotions and perfumes are a huge weakness of mine! I go through mascara pretty quickly, so it's always getting replaced. I keep polishes until I realize I never use them. I have lotions that I used in high school once or twice! Even perfumes that I got as a graduation gift from HS many years ago, I still have.

I grew up with my dad who regularly threw away stuff in the house to eliminate clutter. At the time it was extremely annoying, but now as I got older I tend to do the same thing. No clutter=better!

I keep it all. Every now and then, maybe once a year, I'll toss anything that I haven't worn in that year, but I like to keep my makeup! I spend a lot on it, I want my money's worth!

I have a weakness for palettes, especially eyes, but I do not believe I should just throw them away. I have a lip gloss palette I just can't part with, and perfumes sitting pretty, many of them unopened yet. Any suggestion?

I keep everything at least until it's all gone, bascially because I can't afford to buy new makeup all the time, I do the best with what I've got.

I forget to throw out anything until it's basically unusable... Like I just threw out an old Dior mascara that was pretty much rock solid hahaha. I definitely don't clean things up when I'm supposed to though, but I use most products before they go bad anyway (except nail polish and sometimes perfume).
