Are You Buying More or Less Beauty Due to the Recession?

Traditionally, when the economy sinks, people buy fewer things that they don't really need. But a couple of girly treats are actually selling better than before. Shoes are moving more than they were last year, and in the United Kingdom, beauty sales are up. Cosmetics rose 7.4 percent between 2007 and 2008, with skin care up 6.7 percent during the same period. (It'll be interesting to see if the trend continues, considering how much worse the economy is this year.) Are you treating yourself to more beauty goods these days, or are you watching your pennies?

A tad lesser for me as i definitely cut back on my craves for collecting make up for the sake of multiplying it. I also cut back on buying products from MAC which by the way have lousy collections so far which helps in saving money! :)

I've had to cut waaaaaaaaaaaaaay back on make-up and beauty expenses, but I keep hoping to win some of Bellas giveaways,so I can have some make-up and stuff,to fill my make-up bag, instead of using it for a coin purse.

I spend about the same. I don't really use too awful much to begin with so it's not a big deal.

I think I'm buying about the same amount of products, but thinking really carefully about where to splurge and where to save. I can't give up my Bare Escentuals, but I've been buying more drugstore body washes rather than luxury brands. My clothing and shoe budget has been cut drastically.

I'd say more on my hair/skin, but definitely less on clothing/shoes/accessories. I moved back to my home town within the past year so now I'm keeping up on my hair with color/cuts done every 8 weeks or so since I can get to the salon so easily. Before, I would only get my hair done when I'd be flying home to visit my family, so that was like every 3 or 4 months. Also, now that I know my stylist is right there, I tend to keep getting high maintenance cuts/colors that require frequent salon visits for upkeep. Ugh....guess there was an upside to living 500 miles from your stylist!

Less for sure. I have tons of makeup; so, I really don't need any more. I stock on conditioner/shampoo; so, that's lasting me quite some time. I've cut down my salon visits to only four times a year for major "work".

I've actually gotten more into makeup over the last year. So I'd say I'm buying slightly more, but still not spending a lot.

It's interesting – I can treat myself to a nice hand cream, but when it comes to buying clothes, I keep thinking things like, "Oh, I don't need another black dress right now."

I'm buying about the same amount. Maybe less hair and makeup products. But I'm buying more nail polish.

I broke into my stash of free sample brushes and mascara back in August. I just can't afford to keep on buying $25 mascara and brushes. Thank God for the free samples!
