Are You a Splurger or a Saver?

When it comes to beauty products, there are some things I think are absolutely worth the splurge: a fragrance I can't live without, the perfect foundation, or an effective acne treatment. But I'm happy to go cheap on other items, like cleansers and nail polish. What about you? When it comes to beauty products, do you treat yourself to an expensive product or do you save money as much as you can?

I splurge on some things but I am always looking for a good deal.

I read all of your answers and really struggled whether to respond. My replies aren't usually "normal". I "splurge" all throughout the year as I see items that I know people in my life will love to have for a birthday or holiday and then "save" no matter how far away it is. Often the gifts are on sale, so I don't have do all of my shopping at one time (such as Christmas) which saves me $$. For those of you who are gagging and thinking I'm full of it, I learned a hard lesson about what is important when it comes to spending when my family was killed in a car accident. I say this not to make you all feel sad, but to make you all feel so very "rich" that you have "who" you have and not "what" you have. Hugs.

In response to katiekat's post: My holy grail cheap product is Aussie Deep 3 Minute Miracle. If I don't use this I end up with a head full of dreadlocks! This stuff works for my color treated, dry, wavy hair! I also love L'oreal Volume Express Mascara.. Both these products are around 4.99-6.99 and comparable to anything high-end but triple the price!

Honestly with all the hoopla surrounding the new products with "special" ingredients that are being released- literally every five seconds it seems there's something new- I go with the tried and true method. Part of me is willing to spend a little on a product I haven't tried IF I have a coupon or I got brainwashed by an advertisement, or it made hayden's eyelashes super curly.. Getting off the track here:) Most of the time the only way I'll splurge is if it's one of my can't live without it products, like Estee Lauder Idealist, Advanced Night Repair for Eyes and Daywear moisturizer. I figure it's worth it to at least protect and invigorate my skin for those days I'm not wearing makeup. Anything that saves me money *eventually* by the simple fact that using it will require less makeup/coverup/blush whatever is worth the splurge to me!

I splurge but am trying to save! Bella, could you ever do a post to survey readers favorite drugstore products?

My biggest splurge is LipFusion fifty-dollar plumping lip gloss/treatment, because that stuff actually works. It works like crazy. Other than that, I only splurge on products that are meant to have a therapeutic, lasting effect--moisturizer, eye cream, and hair conditioner--or that need to be carefully matched to my skin, like face powder. Everything else is either going to be rinsed off anyway, or is just about the color, so I never spend a lot of money on things like shampoo, nail polish, eyeshadow, eyeliner, etc. My system works well for me. I'm still always broke, but at least I can't blame my beauty products for that.

i'm mostly a saver - if i hear of a good drugstore brand, i'm all for it! i will try almost any product (if i can afford it), but i'm more likely to buy drugstore brands again.

A bit of both, like most people. I splurge on foundation because it's important to have a good match, and eyeshadow for richer colors. They last a long time so I don't mind the expense. But my liquid liner is a Maybelline one that I bought after seeing how many great customer reviews it had, and I'm very happy with it. And my hair products are almost all drugstore. I haven't found enough of a difference between the best of the drugstore shampoos and the high-end ones.

both - love olay active hydrating fluid (pink bottle) for night time but then i will spend more on other skin products usually by mario badescu, laura mercier tinted foundation, and can't forget bobbi brown bronzer...oh i sound like a mess!

I was so surprised how well I liked the new Wet n Wild lip glosses, eyeshadows and mascara I replaced my old stuff with (found a 99 cent sale at the drugstore!) I had old pricey makeup that I didn't use so out it went. I also prefer to save the moolah for clothes, purses, you know, necessities! Oh, I will pay for a good sunblock-moisturizer-face cream--very important. They're getting more expensive but work better.

I only splurge on skincare items but not on cosmetics. My cosmetics are all drugstore items. But definitely I splurge on foundation.

I'd rather splurge on something worth it like a designer bag...but designer shoes, jeans, dresses etc? i dont think so.

i splurge on cleanser and perfume, spend in the mid-range on my cosmetics, and go cheap everywhere else (nail polish, hair products, etc.)

depends on the product. I love my Tarte bronzer - it's the perfect shade and it lasts forever. I also splurge on shampoo and conditioner. I love tinted lip balms, which are pretty inexpensive. My mascara is mid-end. I love Revlon eyeliner. I find what works and tend to stick with it, regardless of price.

i'm a little bit of both. It's definently easier when you know what works for you. If I find something I like and it's super pricey, I also try to see if I can find another version. I love Chanel bronzer but I also have some from Physician's Forumla and for ten bucks works awesome. =)

I'm a little bit of both. I tend to save where I can most of the time, but sometimes I splurge with rewards for myself, like when I do really well in school or get through exam or essay season.

I'm a big saver... except when it comes to my severe cosmetics addiction.

I'm a little bit of both as well. I splurge on perfume, foundation, bronzer, eyeshadow and lipgloss(I Love LipFusion). But I'll buy Shampoo and mascara from the drugstore.

I agree with scissorz that these days there's a lot of junk out there, and having sensitive skin makes me check every label and ingredient of everything. So I splurge, especially on skin care(arcona junkie). But I shape my own eyebrows, and dye them and my lashes myself, and save a lot of mascara on that. Plus, I don't dye my hair, I love my natural color, so that's a major save. I use Alima and everyday minerals which have good prices(for how long it lasts). I don't do my nails because as an artist I use my hands as tools, chipping whatever I put on in three seconds. I've traded my lip glosses for lip balms lately, and Badger lip-balms are my favorite and a definite save from my old juicy tubes! Organic shampoo and conditioner from Aubrey works better than Redken for my long hair, and is a lot cheaper and a lot better for me and for the environment. I also splurge on makeup brushes!

I'm both. I splurge on foundation (ahhh DiorSkin ForEver how I love thee), mascara, primer and blush. I cheap out on hair stuff (love my Pantene), lip gloss and NYX shadows.

I'm liek you Bella :) I splurge on the good stuff. Like good foundation, face stuff... But I go cheap on things like nail polish or lip gloss (because I loose it all the time) :P
