"I did the red lipstick because some days you only want to put on a red lipstick and sunglasses," she said of the classic matte red. "I wanted that effortless glamour."

She went on, "I named it after my grandmother Maria Moretti because she was always very glamorous but could not be bothered. She wore one thing, and that was it. A lot of my personal style comes from that attitude, and my mother is the same way — nothing was a fuss. I never learned to blow-dry my hair or do anything fancy. It was all just very easy-breezy."

"They are sort of like tester boyfriends," Mia explained of the six-in-one lip palette. "I wanted to do colors that you probably wouldn't buy on their own. It's fun for a weekend like Coachella where you don't want to have it all planned out."

She added, "You could layer them or wear them on their own. The nude could be a really good base, and if you want to make it more opaque, then layer the pink or purple on top. They're also really pretty to wear as a bleed if you wanted to do a purple, pink, and orange rainbow lip, or [outline your lips with] pink liner and fill it in with the light pink. Whatever you do, you should have fun with them because they are not meant to be serious — they are meant to be explorative!"

"These are easy to apply and carry with you," Mia said of the Cream Color Bases. "Honestly, no one brings a whole makeup bag, and if you want to touch up, you don't even want to bring a makeup brush. You can just apply these with your finger. Plus, they're three-in-one. Use the bronzer to shape your eye and to [accent] your cheekbones. I put the highlighter on top of my upper lip."

"The bronzer and highlighter has such a desert feeling to me," Mia reminisced. "It reminded me of getting all that sand blown into your face, hair, and shoes. This is the color of that — the wind blowing on you and just kissing you."

"If I am doing my makeup for a festival, picnic, or pool [party], I don't like to wear a ton of makeup — especially if I am swimming or sweating," said Mia. "So these can be your cheek, lip, and eye [color]. There is something about tying in your cheek with your eye that makes you look pulled together."

"Naming the colors was so fun because it felt like a little girl's fake dream job before you realize that you have to get a real job — which I still haven't realized," Mia mused. "The orange one is named after my favorite cocktail, which is an Aperol Spritz. The names kind of describe them well because they are both kind of flirty and fun and noncommittal."

The basket-weave print on the travel cases was inspired by the retro furniture that Mia has seen in Palm Springs. "They're good for Coachella because they can be purses, which is handy," she noted. "They're a bit see-through so you can see everything, but they're still a little mysterious because you can't see everything. And you'll get through security real quick!"

"The best way to stand out is to be yourself," Mia said. "I hate following trends. I usually try to find my own style based on places I am traveling or the interesting people I am meeting. You can get so much style [inspiration] from the waitress at your diner or from a flight attendant. If you have your eyes open, you can be inspired."

"Coachella is such a great time to bond with friends and be in a beautiful place," she said of her festival experiences. "It has been really special to do a collection launching during Coachella. Even if you are camping, the casual colors [in the MAC line] are an easy one, two, three."

Mia compared creating makeup to DJing: "Even with my music, it is the same ideology. If I am dancing to a song, then someone else is dancing to a song. If I am making something that I know I can wear, then I know someone else can wear it, too."

Mia relies on travel towelettes to clean up her face when transitioning from day to night. "I am a fan of wiping it all off and starting over," she explained. "I always carry the makeup-remover wipes, because there is nothing I hate more than caked-on makeup. Don't be afraid to start over. Keep it simple and beautiful. Men don't like a lot of makeup! The first thing I have to do when I get home is take off my makeup. My boyfriend loves me with no makeup on."

She does, however, rely on concealer. "I have crazy undereye circles because I'm Italian and it's hereditary. No matter how much sleep I get, they are always there, so I always feel like I have to put on undereye concealer. Everyone has their certain thing that they need to put on, but just know what works for you and don't overkill [it]."

"I am a huge accessory person," she enthused. "I love scarves, pins, headbands, and crowns. With hair, I am a more-is-more girl. You can layer the heck out of your hair. I will usually do two or three headbands or a scarf and a headband."

The easiest way to jazz up your look comes from your local mart. "Everywhere you go, you can pick out fresh flowers so easily," Mia noted. "Especially here in New York. I just stop at the bodega, get a bouquet of flowers, and pin them in my hair with bobby pins. It's the simplest thing to do, and it lifts everything up. Every time I see people and I have flowers in my hair, I feel like it makes them happy. With hair, you shouldn't be scared to take chances."

But don't let the accessories fool you — she's not high-maintenance! "I never spend too much time on hair," she added. "It is always a five-minute-or-less job. When all else fails, ponytail it. All girls look good in a ponytail or a bun."
