Dutch beauty Romee Strijd won the modeling lottery. In 2014 she joined the roster at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show; in 2015, she was named an Angel; and this month, she has been announced as the face of VS's new fragrance called XO, Victoria. Getting cast in a solo campaign is a BFD when your competition includes names like Behati Prinsloo, Lily Aldridge, and Alessandra Ambrosio. But Romee proved she has what it takes to star in commercials (which you can exclusively preview, below!) and photo ads much like the supermodel footsteps she fills.

After chatting with Romee on the phone, it was clear she has that effortlessly gorgeous unicorn quality the other Angels possess. She credits water as the best makeup remover, DIYs beach waves by wearing her hair in a simple bun, and is a French pharmacy junkie. She won me over when she shared an endearing story that before she got into modeling, she wanted to be a cleaning lady (she liked to help her mom tidy their home). And just like me, she looks up to Gigi Hadid for having a wildly successful career. If you already feel like you want to be friends with Romee, then keep reading to fall more in love with her girl-next-door personality.

POPSUGAR: Where and how do you spray on fragrance?

Romee Strijd: Mostly, I spray my fragrance on my wrists and my neck. Those are warm areas that help to activate the scent. Also, behind my ears, because I feel like it stays for a long time.

PS: What went through your head when Victoria’s Secret told you that you were the new face of the XO, Victoria fragrance?

RS: I was super honored, and it’s my first solo campaign. It’s definitely a big highlight in my career.

PS: Is that something you always dreamed about when you were younger?

RS: Definitely. I always watched VS shows when I was younger. I loved shooting a commercial. And I love beauty and perfume, so the combination of this was super nice.

PS: The fragrance is inspired by the energy of springtime. It’s difficult to think about warm weather right now, because it’s so cold. But let’s dream for a moment: what are your favorite parts of the warmer season?

RS: I really like to go outside and go for a walk. Or have a nice lunch outside on a terrace. I can’t wait for Spring to do that again.

PS: What do you do to keep your skin looking so fresh?

RS: The most important thing is to not use different makeup removers. My skin is sensitive when it comes to oil. Makeup removers have a lot of stuff in them. So I try to take mine off with hot water, and then put hydration cream on — especially during these cold days. It’s really important to hydrate your skin.

PS: Does water take off heavier makeup off?

RS: Sometimes I have to use makeup remover, because I have makeup on that’s not going to take well as others, but I try to take as much off with water as I can.

PS: What’s your favorite moisturizing cream to use in the Winter?

RS: I really like Embryolisse. It’s really moisturizing. And it’s not too thick, so it moisturizes your skin but it doesn’t stay too long. Sometimes you have a day cream that is too oily. And I think this one is like great.

PS: Did you learn any great beauty tips last year at the Victoria’s Secret show?

RS: Some girls bring their own makeup remover because they know their skin, so that’s what I do now. If I go somewhere I always bring a small Bioderma.

PS: You sound like you’re a French-brand beauty girl.

RS: Yes, I love the French. When I go to Paris, I have to buy everything!

PS: What was it like shooting the Victoria’s Secret beach catalog? The beach set sounds amazing!

RS: It was so much fun, and it’s so nice to see the girls over there. We start super early but finish in the afternoon. Because we have all such nice connections and we’re all friends, we hang out and do dinner.

PS: What advice have the other Victoria's Secret models given you that really stuck with you?

RS: Everybody said to really enjoy the moment. And it all goes so fast, too. So just make the best time of it. And enjoy it.

PS: Who do you think the most inspiring model in beauty is right now and why?

RS: I find it very interesting that Gigi [Hadid] is like an example of how to do great commercials as well as high fashion. And she is using her social media so well. She’s got like a beauty contract, so I think the combination of what she is doing now is really great.

PS: You have that amazing Victoria’s Secret beach-wave texture in your hair; what’s your secret to getting it?

RS: I love to use the Victoria's Secret volume shampoo. Volume is really important. I like to blow-dry my hair, and then afterwards I put in a bun without the elastic. I just take one hair, and wrap it around [the bun]. I leave it up for an hour or so, and then I let it down. Done!

PS: That’s a great trick. What’s your favorite makeup look to wear when you’re not on set?

RS: My makeup routine is super easy. I mostly curl my eyelashes and use a bit of mascara, bronzer, and I go for Rosebud Salve. I really love the Charlotte Tilbury Matte lipsticks, especially in Birkin Brown.

PS: Did you know you always wanted to be a model?

RS: No, not always. When I was younger, I wanted to be a cleaning lady actually [laughs]. Yeah, when I was super young. I really enjoyed helping my mom cleaning the house.

PS: That’s so funny. How did you get discovered?

RS: I was scouted when I was 13 years old, and I didn’t have a lot of time to think about any other job.

PS: So how did you get scouted?

RS: It’s a really typical story. I was shopping with my mom in Amsterdam, and they asked me if I wanted to be a model. At first, I was like, “No!” I was scared and shocked that they asked me. But then a year later, I was like, “Mom, I wanna be a model!”

PS: If you weren’t a model, what would you do?

RS: I really love interior design. I didn’t have the time to really decorate my own apartment, but if I ever buy a nice house here or in Holland, I would really love to design it super nice.
