birthdays birthdays birthdays!

Its my roommates 22nd birthday and we're having an around the world theme party at our house.  Ever room is going to be decorated for a different continent and we're all making our favorite drinks and dressing like their country of origin.  I need some ideas for quick and easy snacks from different countries that we can have in each room.  Any ideas?

I love doing this, for mexican we do mini empanadas (ground beef with taco seasoning, shredded cheese, and roll up in a cresent roll cut in half, its quick easy and delicious), or queso or guac. For middle eastern, some hummus and pita or pretzel chips, falafel, baklava, or grape leave rolls(different than dolma, served hot stuffed with rice and meat). I love liciababe's fried plantain idea! Oh and one of my fav's that is different is Sambusa's from Somalia! Check out the recipe here(i'd suggest the pan frying method) They are deep friend triangle pockets filled with meat of your choice, or potato, or spinach, or even dessert variety of coconut and creamcheese. Yum! Try to introduce some new foods while u can.

haha party i was totally going to suggest world market. They have those sticks that are like candy of some sort which are asian. I don't know what store you could get it at but the Korean girls I went to HS with used to eat little tiny fish that were dried out- theyd just munch on them. You could do fried plaintain (can sub. bananas) for Haiti which are really easy to make and you can also put a little sugar on them to make them sweet. France/ Switzerland you could do chocolate truffles of some sort- chocolate or cheese fondue.

Fun! Check out my around the world party plan for my ideas, but I recommend doing salsa and guacamole (Mexico), caviar and blinis (Russia), sushi (Japan), stilton and cheddar cheese plate (England), Cuban sandwiches (Cuba). Cost Plus World Market is a great place to purchase snacks from other countries. Hope that helps!
