I'm Asking: Do You Wish Your Hobby Was Your 9 to 5?

I'm Asking: Do You Wish Your Hobby Was Your 9 to 5?

One of my best friends is an excellent cook. Her sauces are mouthwatering, her recipes are stunning, and her cupcakes look like they were made by Martha Stewart's team. She has a flourishing career in insurance but often complains that her job isn't fulfilling. I've asked her about exploring her culinary skills as a way to bring home the bacon, and her response is always the same: "I love cooking. Why would I want to do it for work? It's what I do to unwind after work."

Turning your passion and hobby into a career is a lifelong dream for some, but for others, work is work. Do you wish you could turn your favorite pastime into a way to earn a paycheck?

I think it works for some people but not for everyone. No I don't wish my hobby was my job, what would you do to de-stress? I agree with your friend.

I do! I'm a video game designer:) During crunch time the hours can be a bit long, but I've never worked with such a passionate group of people. It's great to work some place where people enjoy what they do.

Would LOVE to train for tris full time, but I've heard that it's not an easy way to make a living. Would also love to do animal rescue full time, but for the time being I'll settle for volunteering once a week and fostering kittens :)

Hrm. I'd LOVE to be able to read books and decide which ones would be good to publish, but I think you'd need to get a lot more experience for that type of work, and connections/network.

If you consider 'wasting time' a hobby then yes, I would love to get paid for that. Otherwise, no. I think it can work for some people, but assignments and deadlines suck all the fun out of it for me.

Heck yeah, I do. I love to work out, but I definitely don't get paid to do it. I've often thought about going into the personal training industry to be able to get paid for doing stuff I love, but I worry that I wouldn't be able to get enough clients with the economy being the way it is.
