Renting a Wing Woman

Would You Be Someone's Rented Wing Woman?

This poll comes from community member ChloeIsAlive, who posted it in the Let's Talk About __________? group in our TrèsSugar Community.

A month ago my dad introduced me to the website rentafriend.com. He regretted not using it on our latest trip to D.C. as a way to find unique and bizarre people to hang out with during our time back east. While my dad was jokingly looking into possibly renting friends, I saw the site as a perfect opportunity to make easy money. And yes, I am so full of myself that I believe my friendship is worth gold — or at least $30 an hour. So I created a profile that reads, "I can converse with just about anybody. I am also very knowledgeable about the cool things going on in San Francisco. Hanging out with me is like watching the best of Christopher Walken on SNL. Amusing as hell, yet sometimes bizarre."

I posted that I am available for all sorts of fun activities, such as bowling, running errands, bike trips, prom dates and snowboard adventures. My profile was live for a mere few days when "SFCoolGuy" who is in need of a wing woman contacted me. He proposed we meet at Union Square to discuss the details of my future as his wing woman. Naturally I'm hesitant. What would you do if you were me? Is this site legit or super sketchy?

She's the one renting herself out. How do we know she's not the creeper?

It may not be fair to just assume he is a creeper. But I always say better safe than SORRY.

Eh, sounds a little creepy of him! Maybe bring a friend or someone big/intimidating when you go met him. 30 dollars an hour sounds like a good deal to me!

if a woman goes home with a man based on her perception of his wingwoman, then that's her problem. if you weren't there influencing her decision, she'd probably go home with some other loser instead. i'm not saying i would necessarily meet the guy, but i definitely wouldn't feel guilty about some trashy woman making a mistake with a guy i'm hanging out with.

SKG, and adding to that, he's probably NOT trustworthy. If I were a legit wingwoman for a friend who I know is a great guy, I wouldn't feel bad if a woman agreed to go home with him. But you don't know this guy - what if a woman assumes this guy is trustworthy based on the fact that he's out with a nice normal female friend (you) and she goes home with him and he does something awful...you don't know anything about this guy, and as per my previous assumptions, he *may* not be an upstanding citizen. I mean, maybe he IS, but who knows, maybe he's a friggin serial killer or rapist or infested with STDs. You have no clue.

Hahahah I LOVE this post! Does a wing woman always mean that you are helping someone pick up someone else? I always thought of a wing woman or wing man as the simple definition of "not having to fly solo" whether it be trying to meet someone or not going to dinner by yourself. I would definitely ask him for more details and if it sounds harmless give it a try! People are always meeting online to date, why not make friends online too? And if you get paid for it, BONUS! I'm very interested to hear how all of this works out!!!

It seems like fun and games until you stop and think - this guy ACTUALLY wants to PAY YOU to help him pick up chicks. He is a) that desperate, and b) that determined to get laid that he would go to all this trouble...and obviously he can't get women on his own, so i'm sure he's a real treat, read: CREEP. I wouldn't meet up with him and/or hang out with him in a bar. Think about it. He will likely throw you over his shoulder and take you home with him, if he's that desperate and creepy.
