Brit Morin lives a colorful life, both literally and figuratively. As the founder and CEO of Brit + Co [1], she leads a digital content and commerce company focused on DIY everything. After starting her career at Apple, then Google, she struck out on her own but continues to feed her addiction to tech and fuel her passion for making and building things and teaching others to do the same. Now a mom of two and the author of Homemakers [2], Brit answers our Power Your Happy [3] Q&A and shares what she does first thing in the morning, her guilty pleasure, and some of her favorite things.

What advice would you give your 22-year-old self?

You don't have to have it all figured out.

What talent or passion have you been able to use in your career in an unexpected way?

My obsession with making things, from physical to digital to content.

What is the one thing that influenced your career today? When was the moment when you realized you were on the right path?

When I was in college, I had the opportunity to work at the Jimmy Kimmel show in LA or for Apple in SF. I chose Apple and became immersed in the digital world. I also met my husband there. In retrospect, that was the right decision on multiple levels!

What does "finding your happy" mean to you? Do you feel you've "found it"?

My favorite motto is "live what you love," and I truly believe that "finding your happy" is doing whatever it is that you love as often as you can do it.

Speed Round: What powers your happy ?

My husband. My two boys. My job/company. A long trail run. Entertaining content. (All in that order.)

Guilty pleasure?

Thrift shopping + flea markets — I love a good deal.

Favorite curse word?

WTF

Happy place?

On a trail.

Heels or flats?

Chunky heels so my feet don't hate me at the end of the day.

The one thing you can't leave home without?

Given that everyone is going to say their iPhone, I'm going to say "something colorful" — I try to add a pop in my outfit every day!

Favorite junk food?

Funfetti cake, obvs.

Favorite healthy food?

Green juice.

Favorite workout?

Trail running to podcasts.

Favorite splurge?

Any new Apple product bought the day it is announced. Yes, I'm that girl.

Feel-good music?

"Blurred Lines" — I don't care if the lyrics are racy; you can't argue that the beat is legit.

Favorite thing about your appearance?

I have giant eyes that are fun to put makeup on.

Favorite possession?

The iPhone photo album of my kids.

First thing you do when you wake up?

Hit snooze. Check the baby monitor. Then check email. Then check social networks. Then check email again in case I missed anything from the last three minutes. Then change multiple diapers.

Last thing you do before going to bed?

Check email. Kiss my husband goodnight. Then turn on the baby monitor. Try to fit a quick prayer/blessing for my day in if I don't fall asleep first. Life is crazy, but I try to always be grateful for the chance to have such a crazy life.
