Aziz Ansari stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night. Aziz brought up the issue of TV diversity right out of the gate when he said, "Stephen's the first late-night host from South Carolina, and the bajillionth white guy!" Stephen, being as sharp as he is, played into it right away, asking if the interview counted as diversifying TV. "Yeah," Aziz answered. "It's really diverse right now. It's like 50 pecent diverse . . . this is like an all-time high for CBS." Stephen couldn't keep a straight face after the joke, which actually stunned him into silence. He could only smile, nod, and stare into the camera.

It's one of those rare occasions in which a meta moment helps a talk show transcend its own structure to become something else entirely, like that shocking Nicole Kidman interview with Jimmy Fallon earlier this year and Scott Eastwood's insane story about Ashton Kutcher on Watch What Happens Live. Watch the semi-awkward, totally awesome moment above.
