Britney Spears in Rolling Stone

Britney's Fall From Grace Makes the Cover of Rolling Stone

A couple of months ago, there were rumors swirling that Britney may be on the cover of Rolling Stone again, and the issue officially hits newsstands this week. The article has more stories about Britney's dizzying downward spiral, including a mall visit gone bad, plastic surgery rumors, and juicy details on her relationship with Justin. So far, the magazine has only released a teaser excerpt, which is just another upsetting story about an outburst Britney had while trying on clothes at Betsey Johnson. Here's more:

. . . she ducks into the dressing room with Ghalib. He emerges with her black Am Ex. The card won't go through, but they keep trying it. "Please," begs Ghalib, "get this done quickly." One of the girls runs to Britney's dressing room, explaining the situation through a pink gauze curtain.

A wail emerges from the cubby — guttural, vile, the kind of base animalistic shriek only heard at a family member's deathbed. "F*ck these b*tches," screams Britney, each word ringing out between sobs. "These idiots can't do anything right!"

Ghalib dashes over to console her, but she's already spitting, growling, throwing a big bottle of soda on the floor so that it begins to spill underneath the curtain, and then she's got a box of tissues and is throwing them on top of the wet floor along with piles of discarded merchandise. A new card finally goes through, but by then Britney is out the door, leaving her shirt on the ground and replacing it with the red top. "F*ck you, f*ck people, f*ck, f*ck, f*ck," she keeps screaming, her face splotchy and red as she crosses the interminable mall floor, the crowd behind her growing larger and larger. "Leave us alone!" yells Ghalib.

To see more from the excerpt and what Britney had to say to her father while in the hospital, just

The siblings run after Britney to get a video to put up on YouTube, and some of the shopgirls run after her to hand off the merchandise she left behind, and there's an entire bridal party wearing yellow T-shirts who have pulled out camera phones too. A crush of managers in black shirts and gold name tags try to keep the peace, but the crowd running after Britney gets larger, and now the shopgirls have started to catch up to her, one of them slipping spectacularly in her platform shoes, grazing her elbow. She pulls herself up, mustering the strength to tap Britney's shoulder. "Um, I'm from the South too," she mumbles, "and I was wondering if I could get a picture with you for my little sister."

Britney turns to Ghalib and grabs his arm. "I don't want her talking to me!" she screams. She whirls around and stares the girl deep in the eyes, her lips almost vibrating with anger. "I don't know who you think I am, b*tch," she snarls, "but I'm not that person."

While we've heard all of these stories about Britney before, somehow it's still heartbreaking to think about what the pop star's life has turned out to be. As more horrifying stories about what's been happening to Britney come to the light, Britney herself just wants to get out of the hospital. When her father, Jamie, visited Britney in the hospital, she begged him to let her leave, saying, "Come on, daddy, let's get out of here. Take my hand and let's walk out of here together." Let's just hope that when that does finally happen, we'll be seeing a different Britney than the one we've sadly grown used to hearing about.

I'm not going to spout the usual "Leave her alone" tripe here. What I will ask, however, is why don't people just shut up about her already? Gah! She wasn't that hot to begin with; she started off as trash, and she's going to finish that way. Let it be done with, for crying out loud.

it's so sad when I think of her early days in this business; her success, stage performances, catchy songs, huge fanbase, Justin, glamorous award show appearances, etc. I remember thinking how lucky she was; being young and successful, achieving her dreams of being a pop princess. Never thought she will end up like this, and it doesn't seem to get any better for her.

I hardly think her declined black card is story worthy but I think they should leave her alone before they killher.

I feel scared for her... I think that she had two babies back to back during what was probably not much of a marriage and was suffering with depression after her second child... For some reason she was never treated with the proper medicine, be it antidepressants or something else, otherwise she would have had her life back on track long ago. I remember after she shaved her head seeing a clip on tv with Brooke Shields saying that Brittany could call her to talk, having suffered from depression herself she saw the signs. I just feel that instead of making fun of her we should just pray that she comes in contact with the kind of people that can provide her with the correct treatment...

oh, and I wish they BOTH (madonna and Britney) would stop talking in that FAKE ASS British accent!

Madonna targeted a young audience also now, come on. PAPA don't preach, about a teen getting pregnant and so on. Madonna "made out" with herself on live TV, not to mention all of the other disgusting things she did when she was younger. Yes she has grown up, but the woman is almost 50! Mid 40's. When she was Britney's age she was still as wild as a buck.

Yes, there are other, bigger tragedies in the world, but that doesn't mean that this isn't a sad story about the destruction of someone's life. Nobody's claiming that Britney Spears is more important than fallen soldiers or victims of natural disasters, but the media is such a huge monster that there is (for better or for worse) room for them to talk about stories like these, too. Also, I think it's important that people become more aware of the severity of psychological problems, and this certainly increases the cultural discourse. You don't have to admire her to have some sympathy.

There is a part of me that feels bad for Britney because yes, she has been thrust into the limelight from the time she was very young and with everything she has done for the last 10 years being thrown about the media, it has to be very hard on her. However, I then look at the lady who used to be her major public rival, Christina Aguilera, and I see a woman with a very strong career, a stable marriage to a good man, with a beatiful son, who has not had any of the problems Briney has. I can remember years ago when Christina started doing "her own thing", people swore she was a diva, on a downward spiral, losing her career, etc.It would seem to me that all in all, being what everyone else wants you to be does more damage in the long run.Either that, or Britney really is just the dimwitted, b****, spoiled brat we always thought she was.

Wow, don't even know where to begin. Several of you echoed my thoughts exactly -- Britney should be left alone, there are contributing factors to her behavior, along those lines. Also, the media gossip machine has gone too far with their nonstop Britney coverage. The cover of Rolling Stone doesn't fit for this, IMO.It doesn't seem like Britney is getting better. It takes a LONG TIME to recover from a breakdown similar to this and it's an ongoing struggle for life. Someone with her best interests at heart should try to get this girl out of LA. Placing blame on circumstances, no one, everyone, or just certain people seems to create more posting drama, so I won't elaborate. Finally, I saw some footage on TV today of paps running through traffic down the street to take this girl's picture. This should not be legal; it's a danger to everybody. I know people here think Britney befriending/inviting them is justification for them basically stalking her, but I respectfully disagree. It's a danger to the public, the paps and celebrities to have this free-for-all on highways.

"the whole reasoning was, that if Britney acted sexy like an adult then she should be considered one. NOT so. It's an act and she was taught it from an early age, just like the 5 yr old who was trying to dance sexy like Madonna. They learn it young and when they get a certain age it's not a big deal to them, their bodies may look like an adult's body BUT IT DOESN"T MEAN THEY HAVE ADULT MINDS AND CAN HANDLE ADULT SITUATIONS!" Xena - it is funny that you say this, because this is the EXACT reason why I have always disliked Britney. She had a sexy image but created music for adolescents. At least Madonna was singing about mature subject matter. Britney was singing "Email my heart" and wearing pigtails while at the same time going braless. She targeted a young audience of girls to look up to her and buy her music, while at the same time targeting an adult male audience to oggle her. She knew what she was doing, and I think that she made a lot of little girls grow up too fast. She taught the girls to say "I'm not that innocent" but didn't teach them how to say NO when the boys tried to follow up on that. Disgusting.

She was 17-18 years old when she started out and was trying to push a provacative agenda of her own design. I guess there are some people that think you have to be an abuse victim to wear a mid-drift top or hot pants at 17, but really it comes down to what one is used to. Keep in mind that Britney was a dancer, and if you go to ANY dance recital you will see the groups high school girls dancing in half shirts, sleeveless, strapless, hot pants, tight pants, mini-skirts, etc. They dance around to songs like the ones that Britney used to make (singing "I'm not that innocent"). Sometimes it is fun to be sexy at any age... it doesn't mean there is something wrong with you. However, there are those people that get obsessed with that image. Example: Women in hollywood that become known because they are sexy and then can't walk out of the house without showing some cleavage. Britney chose that kind of attention, and as an adult continued to persue that kind of attention. And I am sure that most people can acknowledge that it was that image that made her famous...it certainly wasn't her singing!

I know 13 year olds who are sexually active ad have been since they were 11. Children of the 90s weren't innocent anymore please, I remeber when I was 17 in highschool some prefects walked intot he common room crying because these 2 13 year old girls had asked them if they knew where they could have an abortion. Children are no longer innocent as sucjh as we live in a very sexual world but some choose not to act on it and others like Britney do and they knwo exactly what they are doing.

"You think that because a 17 year-old thinks it is fun to be sexy it is a good idea to let her?" I am saying that feeling sexy doesn't make a 17 year old crazy. Come on folks, let's try to be a bit realistic about this. Bi-polar is a condition that has to do with neurotransmitters and absorbtion (or lack there of) of brain chemicals. Dancing in small outfits doesnt cause it.

Britney just needs to go to has been land where she was suppose to go a long time ago. I'm not hating on her either, because going that route would actually save her life. So what she's not some huge popstar anymore, that ship has sailed. I don't find that tragic either, I find it the way things are sometimes. The tragic part is the need to maintain an image that's obviously killing her. I don't think she's mentally ill either, I just think she desperately wants to hold onto fame, but also wants to let it go, but doesn't know how. Tons of people act out without being bipolar you guys. That huge comeback album never should happened. She's not a pop starlet anymore and never will be again.
